The Da Vinci Chronograph IW3764 was introduced in 2007. Equipped with the brand’s first in-house chronograph movement, this automatic timepiece features the iconic tonneau-shaped design case inspired by the IWC Da Vinci Quartz Electronic watch of 1969.
In 2007, IWC Schaffhausen launched the Da Vinci Chronograph with four references: IW376401, IW376402, IW376403 and IW376405. They respectively feature white gold, rose gold, stainless steel and platinum cases. In the subsequent years, the company enhanced the collection by adding new variants.
Inside each IWC IW3764 Da Vinci Chronograph beats the Calibre 89360, a self-winding in-house movement featuring chronograph with flyback function and date. It records chronograph seconds with the large central hand but displays longer periods of time with two analogue hands, on a subsidiary subdial positioned at 12 o’clock.
The tonneau-shaped case measures 51.0 mm x 43mm and has a thickness of 14.35mm. A transparent sapphire crystal allows the glimpses of the mechanical movement. Fitted with a screw-down crown and a convex-shaped sapphire glass with antireflective coating on both sides, the watch is water resistant up to 30 meters.
Stopped hours and minutes can be read off at once and clearly as if on a second time display. The movement is capable of providing a power reserve of 68 hours. IWC Da Vinci Chronograph IW3764 features a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock with a date window.
Depending upon the version, the Da Vinci Chronograph comes fitted with an alligator leather strap or metal bracelet.
Versions
IWC produced three Da Vinci Chronograph IW3764 models in platinum (references IW376405, IW376409 and IW376416), each limited to 500 pieces. All the three platinum versions feature silver-plated dial and black alligator leather strap.
The another limited edition watch from this collection is IW376404, a stainless steel model with blue dial launched in 2008. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this special timepiece was created to support Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
The rose-gold version with silver-plated dial was provided with a brown alligator leather strap or 5N rose gold bracelet. The collection also included a white gold model with slate-grey ardoise dial. The stainless steel regular production variant with a black dial was offered with steel bracelet or black alligator leather strap.
In 2017, the brand revived the Da Vinci family with new round-cased watches. So, the production of IW3764 Series was discontinued.
