SHINICHI HIDAKA WATCHES

Shinichi Hidaka is young watch maker based at Arakawa-ku (Tokyo, Japan). He has recently released a number of mechanical wristwatches in limited editions. Depending upon the model, these timepieces are typically powered by automatic or hand-wound mechanical movements.

Proposed in a limited edition of 20 pieces, the Arakawa Ward’s old train series, Orange Train watch by Shinichi Hidaka was inspired by the orange-colored tram-trains of the Arakawa Line, the sole survivor of the Tokyo Toden streetcar system. This model features a stainless steel case measuring 36mm diameter and 11.3mm thickness. It is topped with a sapphire crystal glass.

The orange-colored brass dial features three central hands and a rail track inspired chapter ring. The 12, 3, 6 and 9 hours are in Arabic numerals and the remaining hours are represented by diamond-shaped markers. The leaf-shaped hour and minute hands are finished in silver color. The long centre-seconds hand is burnished. The Shinichi Arakawa Orange Train watch is equipped with the Swiss made Sellita SW200 automatic movement. This timepiece has a lug width of 18mm and water resistance of 50 meters. The approximate selling price of this version is $550.00 USD.

The next model from Shinichi Hidaka has a 36mm diameter stainless steel case and sector dial. It comes with two leaf-shaped hands (hour and minute) and a centre-seconds hand. Two variants of this watch are available. The first one features burnished blue hands and black numerals.

The second specimen has red numerals, silver-toned leaf hands (hour and minute) and red centre-seconds hand. Both versions are powered by the self-winding Sellita SW200 calibre. The other features include 18mm lug width, 11.3mm thickness, 50m water resistance and sapphire glass. Each costs $550.00 USD.

The other two automatic watches made by Shinichi Hidaka are Issen 36mm and Issen 39mm. Each model is limited to 50 pieces and available in two dial colors: Salomon and Black. These stainless steel wristwatches are powered by the Sellita SW200 automatic movement. The case thickness is 1.3mm and lug width is 18mm. The price of Shinichi Hidaka Issen 36mm watch is $650, where as the 39mm version costs $800.

Shinichi Hidaka also produces hand-wound mechanical wristwatches. The first one is the manual-winding ogu watch with a 40.5mm diameter and 11mm thick stainless steel case. This timepiece is equipped with the legendary Unitas 6498 calibre featuring Geneva stripes decoration and swan neck regulating mechanism.

Fitted with sapphire crystal glass, this model features a dual-tone (silver with white) dial with a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock and centrally placed leaf-shaped hour and minute hands. All the three hands are blued. The dial has Arabic numeral (12, 3 & 9) and rounded corner rectangle hour markers. The white outer dial ring features black minute track.

The mechanical movement is visible through the exhibition case-back. The price of this model is $870.

Shinichi Hidaka has also created a manual-winding ogu watch variant with the Unitas 6498 mechanical hand-wound movement featuring ¾ bridge with circular Geneva stripe pattern and swan neck regulator. Its price is $1,100.

Shinichi Hidaka is also offering a manual-winding model named Shimadzu. Equipped with the Unitas 6498 claibre, this 40.5mm stainless steel watch is available in three dial color options: Black, Light Blue and Silver. The retail price of this watch is $850.00.

The hand-wound Shinichi Hidaka watches mentioned above have a lug width of 20mm.
