MONTA presents the second generation of its successful Skyquest GMT series.
Dedicated to globetrotters, the MONTA Skyquest watch was first introduced at Baselworld 2017. However, that prototype never made it to production. The first production Skyquest was released at Baselworld 2018.
Sportier than its predecessor, the new Skyquest comes with enhanced quality features. In addition to the new case design, new dial, new GMT hand, and new patent pending bezel technology, this automatic watch also features a refined quick-adjust clasp as well as the aluminum bezel-inserts from the previous generation.
The new solid red GMT hand comes with BGW9 Swiss Superluminova applied triangular tip. It is unique to the Skyquest when compared to the other GMT models in the MONTA collection.
To maintain true sport watch heritage, the dial has been completely redesigned with new markers, a minute track, and the updated MONTA logo first introduced on the Noble model in 2020. New hour markers with full gold or rhodium surrounds filled with BGW9 Swiss Superluminova were drawn inward from the rehaut to increase legibility.
The model designation and depth rating were inverted to provide better balance with the MONTA name and logo above the hand stack. Two dial choices are available: matte black and gilt (gold) black. The MONTA Skyquest GMT watch has a date window at 6 o’clock.
The anodized aluminum bezel-insert enhances the sportiness, and its matte finish perfectly complements the dial. The color tones are warm, and the printing is sharp. The new bezel is wider with larger printing of the 24-hour scale. Swiss made, the Skyquest GMT is available with three bezel options: Blue + Red, Black + Red and All Black.
MONTA worked directly with Sellita to create a unique hand height allowing the case proportions to balance with the space required under the crystal while maintaining an adequate thickness. The team at MONTA reshaped the case by focusing on a softer crown guard, a reduced lug-to-lug measurement and removal of the previous inner lug chamfer. However, they kept the same thickness and beauty that was so obvious in the first generation.
Finally, the renowned MONTA clasp was updated with a new flip lock mechanism and a greater curve to the deployant pieces, further maximizing comfort on the wrist.
The completely redesigned bezel offers a tactile feel that is precise and memorable. Three patents have been filed to protect the ingenuity of this easily serviceable bezel assembly.
The new Skyquest GMT watch is powered by the Swiss made MONTA M-23 (Sellita SW330-2 ) self-winding mechanical movement. Visible through the exhibition case-back, this calibre offers a power reserve of 55 hours.
MONTA has acquired enough Sellita SW330-2 movements for manufacturing at least 300 total units in the preorder. Delivery is expected to commence the first half of November 2022. More units will be available in 2023.
Presently, this timepiece can be pre-ordered for a price of $2,190, with estimated delivery in November 2022. Thereafter, the suggested retail price of the new MONTA Skyquest GMT watch will be $2,435.
