German watch company Mühle-Glashütte presents a new silver-grey dial version of its 29er Big model. This watch series pays tribute to the “29er”, a small sailing dinghy in which young sailing talents take to the seas in the Junior Championship run by the German Sailing Association (DSV).
In 2006, the 29er class of sailing dinghies was adopted as an official class for the Junior Championship run by the German Sailing Association (DSV). This also marked the launch of the popular Mühle-Glashütte 29er wristwatch.
Alongside the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer and Teutonia, the 29er family is one of the top three ranges of wristwatches manufactured by Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte.
In 2016, two-tone dials were introduced to the characteristic design of the 29er watch family. With the new 29er Big, this distinctive design element has been integrated in the earlier models of the successful range for the first time.
With its silver-grey dial and anthracite-coloured flange, the new 29er Big perfectly complements the design that was introduced to the family by a new model launched on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. Like the Muhle-Glashutte 29er Zeigerdatum, the new 29er Big is the latest model and, indeed, the first of the original models of the successful family to boast a two-tone dial.
The dial contains the same applied indices and typical red second hand and is reduced down to the essentials when it comes to its design. The minute graduation, small second numerals and luminescent hour markers are all located on the flange, meaning that the dial itself only displays the applied indices and the date.
The stainless steel case of the new 29er Big has a diameter of 42.4 mm. The combination of contrasting surface finishes is very charming and completes the attractive appearance, with the bezel alone featuring both a brushed top surface and finely polished sides.
The middle section of the case has a vertical finish and is stunningly framed by the bezel and the screwed-on back, the sides of which are also perfectly polished. This alternation between polished and matt surfaces creates an array of different light reflections, just like the sun sparkling in the waves. In line with its nautical inspiration, the case is water-resistant to 10 bars.
The watch houses the reliable SW 200-1 Mühle version movement equipped with the company’s very own rotor and its particularly shockproof woodpecker neck regulation. These impressive components allow it to be regulated in six different positions and set to ensure accuracy values of between 0 and a maximum of +8 seconds per day. Moreover, Mühle’s own regulation standards comply with the German chronometer standard.
