Co-founded by Lasse Roxrud Farstad and Øystein Helle Husby, STRAUM is a Norwegian watch brand dedicated to explorers and adventurers.
In 2021, the brand launched its first watch collections: the Rastarkalv and Opphav. Made in Switzerland, these high-quality mechanical watches are inspired by the raw elements and materials of Norwegian nature.
STRAUM RASTARKALV
The STRAUM RASTARKALV watch comes with an exotic dial made from a 3,300-year old root extracted from the plains of Rastarkalv on the island of Frei. Shrouded in darkness and deprived of oxygen, it has been preserved in perfect condition.
After extracting the root from the swamp, the company made 47 uniquely numbered dials. Each of these dials is then set inside a custom designed STRAUM W-01 case made from damascus steel. Each timepiece houses a Swiss Made automatic movement.
The watch comes with a radio carbon certificate confirming the age of the dial material. Limited to 47 pieces, the STRAUM RASTARKALV has a 41mm diameter case.
On the case-back side, it features twin sapphire crystal windows offering the views of the self-winding movement and a stamped and surface-treated 3D motif portraying the battle of Rastarkalv. The case thickness is 11.1mm and the lug to lug length is 46.6mm.
STRAUM OPPHAV
The STRAUM OPPHAV watch features a distinctive three-dimensional stamped pattern inspired by the ripple effect on a lake.
The steel surface has been carefully treated with multiple layers of paints and lacquers, resulting in an enchanting effect of depth. The top surface is smooth and flat, yet it holds a miniature landscape of ridges and valleys within.
The STRAUM OPPHAV watch is available in two case versions: Damascus steel and 316L Stainless steel. From each case style, four dial color variants are also offered: White, Green, Blue and Black. All versions are equipped with Swiss made automatic movements.
The Damascus steel variants of OPPHAV are limited to 250 units for each dial color. Each of the stainless steel versions is limited to 125 pieces.
Common features
All STRAUM watches stand out with a striking ‘floating dial’ – a design achieved by moving the chapter ring below the dial.
The dial is then elevated towards the sapphire glass and held in place by six main indices, similar to the gemstone in a ring. The combined effect emphasizes the dial as a jewel centerpiece of the product experience.
The case back is adorned with an embossed 3D motif capturing the origins of the watch’s story. Two sapphire crystal windows provide a clear view of the beating heart of every STRAUM watch–the Sellita SW-200 movement. All STRAUM watches come with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
All watches include a premium vegetable-tanned, full-grain leather strap (available in five colors), designed specifically for the STRAUM W-01 watch case, with inset lug cuts and a slightly padded profile. The strap also includes the signature Straum buckle along with quick-release spring bars for easy fitting. Medium-weight stitching round the edge completes the look.
All watches come with a leather travel case (available in five colors to match the strap), which will protect your watch from minor scratches and falls. The case is secured with premium magnetic snap buttons that allow for easy opening. Straps and travel cases can also be purchased separately.
