NAOYA HIDA & Co. NH TYPE 2C-1 “Lettercutter”

Japanese luxury watch brand NAOYA HIDA & Co. presents NH TYPE 2C-1, a new timepiece created in collaboration with Mark Cho, co-founder of THE ARMOURY.

THE ARMOURY is a men’s lifestyle brand known for its distinctive products curated from exceptional craftsmen and factories. It has showrooms in Hong Kong and New York.

The NH TYPE 2C-1 is based on NAOYA HIDA’s newly introduced NH TYPE 2C watch. To create this collaborative series, some modifications have been applied.

Firstly, all 12 indexes have been replaced by THE ARMOURY “Lettercutter” Arabic font selected by Mark Cho. The artificial lacquer poured over the 12 Arabic indexes is now dark blue instead of black.

For the dial, the designers took some cues from the brand’s now sold-out NH TYPE2B watch also. Inspired by this model, the seconds line on the outer edge of the dial was extended to the inner bezel every five seconds.

The NAOYA HIDA & Co. NH TYPE 2C-1 watch features THE ARMOURY engraved on the 6 o’clock side of the dial. Additionally, the typeface and position of the engraving on the caseback has been altered. For this model, the brand is also offering leather straps in different color and materials.

Like the NH TYPE 2C watch, the new model comes with a 37mm diameter case made of SUS 904L grade stainless steel, the alloy known for its superior hardness and corrosion–resistance.

The hour, minutes and seconds hands of this watch are produced by cutting to give them a three-dimensional appearance. Due to this, the hands are almost three times thicker than those of a standard watch. The dials are almost three times thicker than those of ordinary watches.

Powering this timepiece is the manual-winding Cal.3020CS movement, which incorporates a newly developed click mechanism, different from the one in the base movement, the ETA Valjoux 7750, so that the wearer can enjoy the feel of winding the watch.

This movement is a modification of the Cal.3019SS presented in 2019 in order to create a medium three-hand system (with the seconds hand positioned in the center of the dial).

The six Arabic indexes on the dial are all hand-engraved by skilled craftsmen. Synthetic lacquer is then poured over them to give them a unique finish.

The production of NH TYPE 2C-1 is limited to 10 pieces in 2022.
