Rolex has launched a new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 model in a platinum case with an instantly recognizable ice-blue dial and president bracelet.
Fluted bezel, a cornerstone of Rolex’s aesthetic heritage, is found only on some Classic models in the Oyster Perpetual collection. Until now it has only been made in 18 ct gold. This new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40mm watch (reference 228236-0012) features platinum fluted bezel.
Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the first calendar wristwatch to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock on the dial. The day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages. Watches in the Day-Date range are made only of precious metals – 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold or 950 platinum.
The 40 mm Oyster case is water resistant to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). Its middle case is in 950 platinum. The other features of this reference include the hermetically screwed down case-back and the Twinlock winding crown with a double waterproofness system
The scratchproof sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating has a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for easy reading of the date.
A Superlative Chronometer, the new version of the Day-Date 40 houses with calibre 3255. Introduced in 2015, this in-house self-winding movement movement incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement and an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring.
The blue Parachrom hairspring with Rolex overcoil ensures the calibre’s regularity in any position. The high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers improve the movement’s shock resistance. Calibre 3255 offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
The President bracelet on this new Platinum Perpetual Day-Date 40 version includes an elegant concealed folding Crownclasp and ceramic inserts inside the links.
