Inspired by the success of the Historiador Asturias watch introduced last year, Cuervo y Sobrinos has added a new model to the company’s extensive collection. The Historiador Asturias Pequeños Segundos, available in two variants, shares some of the physical characteristics of its older sibling, but on this occasion it simply displays the hours, minutes and seconds. The watch is free from superfluous detail and imparts meaning in a pure, elegant form.
Ramón Fernández Cuervo migrated from his home in Pravia, a town in Asturias in northern Spain, and settled in Cuba. He established a jewellery store in Havana in 1862 and later he invited family members to join him. In 1882, Don Cuervo established a new company with his nephews (sobrinos), the aptly named firm ‘Cuervo y Sobrinos’.
In 2021, the brand released the Historiador Asturias, an elegant timepiece that pays tribute to Ramón and his nephews. Endowed with a sunray dial and offered in a choice of eye-catching hues, it imparts information in a highly legible format. The model has proved incredibly popular, courtesy of its distinctive style, notable quality and impressive value.
Now, building on the success of the Historiador Asturias, Cuervo y Sobrinos is proud to unveil a new model, the HistoriadorAsturias Pequeños Segundos. This latest creation eschews the centre seconds and date function found on last year’s model in favour of small seconds display, positioned at 6 o’clock. This indication is tastefully unobtrusive, but sufficiently large to be intelligible.
The Historiador Asturias Pequeños Segundos is available in two variants, blue or ivory. Each dial is adorned with a sunray motif, comprised of fine lines, that charmingly toys with available light. The dial transitions from mid-tones at its centre to deep shades near the perimeter. An applied CyS emblem is positioned at 12 o’clock.
Upholding the character of the Historiador Asturias, this latest model is a paragon of elegance. Graceful Lozangé-style hands collaborate with applied baton-style indexes, displaying the time in an easy-to-read form.
The CyS 5158 calibre sits at the heart of the Historiador Asturias Pequeños Segundos. Based on the Sellita SW 260-1, this automatic Swiss movement features an engraved oscillating weight and has a power-reserve of 38 hours.
When designing this new model, Cuervo y Sobrinos looked at some of its former watches from the 1940s. As a result, the case design echoes the styling of this era, but subscribes to modern tastes with its generous diameter of 40mm. The steel case is highly polished, accentuating its gently arcing contours. The elongated lugs are ergonomically shaped, following the upper contours of the wrist and conferring extraordinary wearer comfort.
The model features a double curved sapphire crystal enticing light to flood the dial surface, thereby augmenting readability.
