Seiko expands its Presage Sharp Edged Series by launching five new models inspired by the traditions of Japan. One is a limited edition GMT, two feature a new open heart movement and two offer a multi-hand dial with power reserve, day and date displays.
Like all the existing watches in this series, the dials of these new additions are adorned with the Asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern that has been used in Japanese fabrics ever since the Heian period over a thousand years ago.
Seiko SPB303J1 Presage Sharp Edged GMT
The new Seiko Presage Sharp Edged GMT watch (SPB303/ SPB303J1) boasts a wide dial opening allows the time of day, GMT function, power reserve and date to be read at a glance. The dial’s rich texture is complemented by the depth of its color, a blue that Ukiyoe artists over the centuries made famous in images of Mt Fuji in high summer. The GMT display ring shares the same blue and is in ceramic.
This Presage watch is a limited edition of 900 and will be available in July at the Seiko Boutiques and selected retail partners worldwide. This dual time-zone watch houses the automatic 6R64 calibre.
Other Models
The other four new watches in the 2022 Sharp Edged Series all share a new case design. While it retains all the strength and angularity that gives the series its distinctive look, there is a new face with a mirror finish between the top and side surfaces that adds a new sparkle to the watch. The elegance of the new design is further enhanced by the inward tapering of the case.
Both SPB305 and SPB307 house the Seiko Caliber 6R38, which is a new addition to the 6R family of movements. It is specially adapted so as to allow the wearer to see the beat of the escapement through the opening at the 9 o’clock position. Furthermore, it offers a power reserve of 70 hours.
Seiko Presage Sharp Edged SPB309 and SPB311 models feature Caliber 6R21. It displays day, date and power reserve indicators at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions respectively. This is the first appearance of this multi-hand movement in the Sharp Edged Series.
Each of the four dials is in a different traditional Japanese color. Shironeri, the white of unbleached silk and Aisumi, the blue of indigo for are used in the open heart watches.
Geppaku, the white of the full moon, appears in one of the two multi-hand creations while the sub-dials of the other are in Kuritobi, the color of the black kite. These four new timepieces will be available in June at the Seiko Boutiques and selected retail partners worldwide.
