WAKO “Clock Tower 90 Years” Limited Edition Watch

Wako, the famous department store retailer in Japan, has announced a special timepiece to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the iconic clock tower of the Wako Main Building in Ginza.

Incorporated in 1941, Wako Co., Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko Holdings Corporation. The clock tower was completed in 1932. This year, the company is celebrating 90th anniversary of the clock tower and 75th jubilee of the establishment of Wako retail division.

This commemorative WAKO Watch is limited to 50 numbered pieces. It has a 35mm diameter case made of stainless steel. Equipped with a manual-wound mechanical movement, it displays the hour, minute and small seconds functions.

WAKO traditionally offers a limited edition timepiece for each milestone of completion of the clock tower (for example 60th, 70th and 80th anniversaries). This time, the dial is based on the texture of granite used on the outer wall of the main building. It has central hour and minute hands and the small seconds at 6 o’clock. The dial incorporates index hour-markers and three Arabic numerals (12, 3 and 9).

It houses the Seiko Caliber 6898. Introduced in 2005, this ultra-thin hand-wound movement was exclusively developed for Credor, the upscale domestic watch brand of Seiko Watch Corporation. Provided with a small second hand function, this 26-jewel caliber is only 1.98 mm thick. Featuring blued screws and fine watchmaking decorations, this movement is visible through the exhibition case-back.

The words “CLOCK TOWER 90TH ANNIVERSARY” and the illustration of the main building are printed on the glass surface of the back cover by gold vapor deposition. Fixed with six screws, the steel case-back ring boasts a special finish and various inscriptions including the limited edition serial number.

The WAKO Watch Tower 90-year limited model will be released on 28 April 2022. It has a suggested retail price of 900,000 yen (including taxes). This timepiece is fitted with a charcoal gray or navy blue crocodile leather strap.
