To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Médecins Sans Frontières (known as Doctors Without Borders), German watch manufacturer NOMOS Glashütte presents a special edition timepiece from its Tangente 38 series.
Doctors Without Borders was founded in Paris on December 22, 1971, to help people in war zones and those in the wake of inevitable disasters. Their first mission in a conflict zone occurred during the civil war in Lebanon, where doctors and nurses treated casualties from both sides in a hospital basement.
Today, Doctors Without Borders operates in more than 70 countries. More than of its 65,000 members assist people caught in crises. They are doctors, nurses, logistics experts, administrators, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, mental health professionals, and others whose work is guided by humanitarian principles and medical ethics. In 1999, the humanitarian organization won the Nobel Peace Prize for their work.
For ten years, NOMOS Glashütte has been making timepieces for supporting this organization. To this date, the brand has made over 10,000 watches and 14 different models for humanitarian aid, all identifiable by the red twelve. And for each watch, between 100 and 250 Euros go directly to Doctors Without Borders.
2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Médecins Sans Frontières as well as a longstanding partnership of ten years. To celebrate this milestone, the Glashütte based Manufacture has created a special edition of Tangente 38, the famous NOMOS hand-wound wristwatch with a diameter of 38 millimeters.
This manual-wound steel timepiece can be distinguished by the inscription 50 ANS DE MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES on lower part of its white dial, below the small seconds counter.
As a special edition, 50 ans de Médecins Sans Frontières is limited to 2,021 units worldwide. For each watch, 100 Euros goes to Doctors Without Borders.
To certify the special status of this timepiece, the stainless steel case back is engraved with limited edition number X/2021 and 50 ANS DE MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES.
