NH TYPE 3A is the third model announced by Japanese luxury watch brand NAOYA HIDA & Co.
It is also their first watch to include a display function other than hours, minutes and seconds. The comparatively small 37mm case was created with the aim of condensing details reminiscent of 18th-19th century pocket watches. The enlarged moon phase at 6 o’clock is made of 18k yellow gold.
The faces of the stars and the surface of the moon, which can be seen through the large hollowed window, and the 11 Roman indexes are all hand-carved by a skilled craftsman. These details, rarely seen in this day and age, are housed in a rounded case featuring a newly designed, slightly thicker bezel.
In addition to hour and minutes, NH TYPE 3A boasts a large moon phase display is integrated at 6 o’clock. The moon phase discs are made of 18-carat yellow gold and the stars and the face on the moon are all hand-engraved by skilled craftsmen.
The eleven Roman indexes on the dial are all hand-carved by skilled artisans. Afterwards, synthetic Japanese lacquer (Cashew) is poured over the surface to create a unique finish.
It has a newly designed bezel with a rounded design inspired by vintage complication watches from the 1930s to 1960s.
In collaboration with Roku-Roku Sangyo Corporation, which manufactures the world’s highest level ultra-high-precision microfabrication machine, and some components manufacturing company that introduced the machine, the brand has succeeded in machining difficult materials with a few microns of precision and complex shapes and three-dimensional shapes such as a step shaped bezel and an engraved logo.
In most watches, the hands are made by pressed, but to give the watch a three-dimensional effect, the hands of Type 3A are machined and are about two times thicker than the standard hands. The dial, which is almost three times thicker than a typical watch, is designed in three dimensions.
The watch is equipped with a hand-wound movement, Cal. 3021LU, which allows the user to enjoy the sensation of winding, thanks to the inclusion of a newly developed click mechanism, different from the base movement, ETA Valjoux 7751. This is a major modification of the Cal.3019SS launched in 2019, in order to make it a with moon phase function.
The case material is SUS904L stainless steel, which is known for its high corrosion resistance.
Only 15 pieces of this watch will be manufactured. After that, production will be discontinued in order to move to NH TYPE3B.
