NAOYA HIDA & Co. NH TYPE 2B

Japanese luxury watch brand NAOYA HIDA & Co. presents NH TYPE 2B, the second model announced in the TYPE 2 series.

Compared to the TYPE 1 series by NAOYA HIDA & Co., it has a considerably more modern feel, based on the designs of the 1960s timepieces. It is equipped with a hand-wound central second movement – a rare feature in these times.

Main characteristics of the TYPE 2 series are; the three-dimensional mortar form of the dial, achieved through carving with an ultra-high precision micro-fabrication machine; hands which are nearly three times as thick as on a normal watch, and the Arabic index, hand-carved by a skilled craftsman. With the newly designed crown – which is different from the TYPE1 series – you can enjoy the winding feeling of the mainspring.

This model is a modified version of the NAOYA HIDA & Co. NH TYPE 2A, which was launched in 2020 and for which 10 pieces were produced and sold out. Only 10 models will be produced. This model will be discontinued to make way for the NH TYPE 2C in 2022.

Compared with the NH TYPE 2A, the following points have been changed.
– The design of the index, bezel and crown has been changed to reflect the 1960s.
– The design of the center seconds has been changed
– The supplier and material of the leather strap attached as standard have been changed.

This NH TYPE 2B is a hand-wound wristwatch with the second hand positioned in the center of the dial, a rarity in modern-day hand-wound watches. This watch has been designed in the style of vintage watches from the 1930s to the 1960s, but with a contemporary size of 37mm and a practical construction. The case material is SUS904L stainless steel.

In collaboration with Roku-Roku Sangyo Corporation, which manufactures the world’s highest level ultra-high-precision microfabrication machine, and some components manufacturing company that introduced the machine, NAOYA HIDA & Co. has succeeded in machining difficult materials with a few microns of precision and complex shapes and three-dimensional shapes such as a step shaped bezel and an engraved logo.

In most watches, the hands are made by pressed, but to give the NH TYPE 2B watch a three-dimensional effect, the hands are machined and are about three times thicker than the standard hands. The dial, which is almost three times thicker than a standard watch, is designed in a mortise-and-braces pattern on three levels.

The NH TYPE 2B watch by NAOYA HIDA & Co. is equipped with a hand-wound movement, Cal. 3020CS, which allows the user to enjoy the sensation of winding, thanks to the inclusion of a newly developed click mechanism, different from the base movement, ETA Valjoux 7750. This is a major modification of the Cal.3019SS launched in 2019, in order to make it a center second hand movement.

The six Arabic indexes on the dial are all hand-carved by skilled artisans. Afterwards, synthetic Japanese lacquer (Cashew) is poured over the surface to create a unique finish.
