PARRIS DACOSTA HAYASHIMA KONPEKI

Parris daCosta Hayashima is an independent brand based in Fukuoka, Japan. Co-founded by Richard Parris, Thomas daCosta, and Satoshi Hayashima, this luxury watch brand blends the finest artistic and horology traditions from Japan and Switzerland.

Their debut creation, Konpeki is an elegant, everyday dress watch, combining the watchmaking technology of Fleurier in Switzerland with the craftsmanship of Fukuoka, Japan.

PARRIS DACOSTA HAYASHIMA KONPEKI

Konpeki is a traditional Japanese colour. The deep blue, close to indigo, was originally made from ground lapis lazuli, brought into Japan from overseas.

At the heart of Konpeki is the beautiful micro-rotor movement, visible through the glass case back: a customized Cal. 5401 from Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. The konpeki-blue movement screws match the dial side indices and hands. The case design was developed working closely with L.A.B. (Les Artisans Boîtiers, La Chaux de Fonds). The subtle chapter ring gives balance to the dial and case proportions.

Konpeki’s dial is manufactured by Quadrance et Habillage also in La Chaux de Fonds. The surface of the dial is a delicate satin finish with fine graining. The process includes brushing the dial with a horsehair brush using silver powder. The final graining finish is a precise result of the dial artisan’s brushing pressure. The final dial colour and finish is simple and elegant. The ivory colour is a perfect juxtaposition with the konpeki-blue hands, applied indices and numerals.

The inscription FLEURIER – SUISSE on the dial is a nod the beautiful French-speaking canton of Neuchâtel where the movement, case and dial of each Konpeki watch are manufactured. The precise konpeki-blue finish of the hands, indices, numerals and movement screws was achieved by close collaboration with Quadrance et Habillage, who developed a custom PVD especially for Konpeki.

The crocodile strap of this timepiece is made exclusively for Konpeki by a specialist leather craftsman in Fukuoka. It has a mid-matte finish: understated yet luxurious.

The camphor Konpeki box was designed and made by craftsman Mr. Yoshitomo Hieda at his atelier in Yame, Fukuoka. The wood for the box was prepared and stored almost 40 years ago, waiting for the right project to identify itself. Inside is a removable blue suede cushion. With no outside branding, the box is an objet d’art in itself.

Limited to 25 pieces, each Konpeki watch has a retail price of US$ 11,250.
