Artisans de Genève: The Sea Shepherd Challenge

The Sea Shepherd Challenge is a special, custom timepiece project successfully executed by Artisans de Genève, an independent Swiss company specialized in the personalization of timepieces.

Artisans de Genève: The Sea Shepherd Challenge - The Rolex submariner with moonphase

Artisans de Genève has customized Rolex® Submariner® Date of Paul Watson, the conservation and environmental activist, who founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. As a seasoned seafarer, Paul Watson finds his way using the night’s sky, and predicts the tides by watching the Moon.

Thus, the sources of inspiration for the ‘Sea Shepherd Challenge’ were deep blue ocean waters and the moon with star-studded deep blue night sky. On his request, the talented craftsmen of the Swiss atelier have modified his personal Submariner® watch by adding a lunar phase module. Now, instead of the Date display at 3 o’ clock, this unique timepiece features a realistic moon phase indicator at 6 ‘o clock.

This unique and customized timepiece boasts an aventurine dial inspired by the star-studded night sky. The bezel insert is also made of aventurine. The sides of the case are laser engraved for a flawless allure, the outlines are satin-brushed and the bevels are polished by hand.

The 3135 mechanical self-winding movement is angled, circular-grained, and polished by hand. Artisans de Genève added an additional module to the movement to create the moonphase complication.

Admired through the sapphire crystal caseback, the self-winding movement highlights a white gold oscillating weight with an aventurine insert.
