Seiko has partnered with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS to create an Astron GPS Solar watch that fuses the functionality of the state-of-the art Dual-Time 5X53 Caliber with a design inspired by their signature icon Ludens.
The Seiko Astron GPS Solar KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS Limited Edition watch’s design incorporates several design elements inspired by Ludens’ suit and the interwoven pattern on the dial reflects the texture of his carbon face mask motif. Gold color accents echo the metal parts of the suit, including the interlocking design of the two sub-dials.
The iconic studio logo appears at the 9 o’clock position and on the case back. On the bezel, the UTC codes are in the same font as KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS’ logo and the studio’s signature FROM SAPIENS TO LUDENS is discreetly engraved on the bezel side at the 6 o’clock position.
The interlocking sub-dials are inspired by the hinges of Ludens’ suit. The cut-outs in the hour and minute hands echo its flag spear’s design. The watch comes in a special box which includes a message card from Hideo Kojima himself and the art director of the company.
The watch connects up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its precision, it adjusts automatically to Daylight Saving Time and, when the wearer changes time zone, he or she simply pushes a button and the hands move to the correct local time, thanks to the system that moves the hour, minute, and seconds hands independently. Caliber 5X even gives the wearer the ability to change the main time display instantly from home to local time and vice versa.
The Astron GPS Solar KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS watch (reference SSH097J1) is a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. It will be available at selected Seiko Boutiques and retailers in June 2021.

KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS is a creative studio led by game creator Hideo Kojima established in Tokyo, Japan in December 2015 under the slogan FROM SAPIENS TO LUDENS.
