Draken Benguela

New Zealand-based watch brand Draken presents Benguela, a robust diving watch especially designed for professional divers. On 14 August 2020, the brand launched an online crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for this new collection.

Draken Benguela

Named after an African city, this new watch incorporates strength and uncompromising style inspired by the rugged African terrain. The watch has an impressive water resistance of 50 atm (500 meters approximately).

Draken Benguela

The Benguela diving watch features a 43mm diameter case in 316L bead-blasted stainless steel. It is fitted with a 3.7mm thick domed sapphire crystal glass on the top. The tapered, bead-blasted stainless steel case maximizes traction on the bezel while avoiding bulkiness.

Draken Benguela

A solid, unidirectional bezel is a must have feature of modern diving watches. The Benguela watch comes with a 120-click unidirectional diving bezel made with bead-blasted stainless steel. The bezel of Benguela features engraved numbers (5 to 55) and a luminous triangle at the zero-minute marker. The watch incorporates a Helium escape valve (HEV) at 2h.

Draken Benguela

The Benguela watch is available with two movement options: Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic or Japanese SII NH35A. The watch houses a sandwich dial with applied bead-blasted indices. Its concentric circle design creates depth, for a detailed dial without the clutter. The hour-markers and hands incorporate vintage coloured X1-C3 luminous paint for maximum visibility in any light conditions.

Draken Benguela

The dial also features a symmetrical date window with luminous date wheel, which is useful in extremely dark environments. Rear side of the watch is secured with a solid stainless steel case-back that boasts an engraved sea monster.

Draken Benguela

The Benguela watch features hooded lugs for simple bracelet attachment via quick release pins. The watch is available with a 316L bead-blasted stainless steel bracelet with ratcheting clasp for quick adjustment when wearing a wetsuit or with a natural rubber strap with quick release pins.

Draken Benguela

The Benguela is now available for pre-order on Kickstarter with a special launch offer of $389 for Seiko NH35A movement version, and $520 for the ETA 2824-2 movement version.

Draken Benguela

Founded in 2016 by South African ex-pat Michael Blythe, Draken is focused on creating dependable tool watches with unique designs for explorers and adventurers. Inspired by the dramatic landscapes of Africa, Michael and the brand are strongly linked to the continent. Africa can be a harsh and unforgiving place, but also starkly beautiful. It’s this beauty that inspires Draken designs.
