The Turtle Conservation Professional Dive Watch by the Global design house Flamingo Collective is a collaborative project with an aim to support turtle protection campaigns.
Today, nearly all species of sea turtle are classified as Endangered due to excessive poaching, habitat destruction, climate change and accidental capture in discarded fishing nets. To maintain the balance of our ecosystem, there is an urgent need to protect the sea turtles and the land-tortoises.
Across the world, several agencies and non-profit organizations have been involved in the conservation of turtles. Turtle Conservancy is a leader in turtle preservation with one of the largest conservation networks in the world. The Marine Institute of Maui Ocean Center undertakes turtle rescue and education in the Hawaiian Islands and Billion Baby Turtles Fund is a project by SEE TURTLES, who works tirelessly in the preservation of turtle nests on beaches around the globe.
With the Turtle Conservation Professional Dive Watch project, Flamingo Collective aims to support the activities of Turtle Conservancy, the Marine Institute of Maui Ocean Center and Billion Baby Turtles Fund of SEE Turtles.
On 29 July 2020, Flamingo Collective launched a Kickstarter campaign to promote their turtle conservation professional dive watch with a promise to donate more than 50% of the sales from each watch to support turtle conservation-related efforts and causes.
The Turtle Conservation Professional Dive Watch is a modern and sleek tool watch with a unisex character. It comes in a slim 40mm diameter case made with stainless steel and features a brushed finish.
Water resistant to 300 meters, this diving watch features flat sapphire crystal front glass, 120 click unidirectional sapphire crystal rotating bezel and screw down crown. This diving watch is also fitted with an engraved, stainless steel screw-down caseback.
This timepiece is available with two movement options: Automatic or quartz. Both the movements are made in Japan. The automatic variant houses a Miyota 9015 self-winding movement. This 24-jewels movement beats at the rate of 28,800 vph and provides a power reserve of 42 hours.
The Turtle Conservation Professional Dive Watch is available in three color combinations. First version is Lava Rock, which features a black sapphire crystal bezel and a matte black dial with gray and orange details. This version takes inspiration from Kīlauea, an active shield volcano in the Hawaiian Islands.
Second version is Pololū Surf, which features a light blue sapphire crystal bezel and an ocean wave etched blue dial with silver and white details. Pololū is the northernmost of a series of erosional valleys forming the east coast of Kohala Mountain on the Island of Hawaii.
Third version is Freshwater Mint, which features a mint green sapphire crystal bezel and a matte mint green dial with silver and white details. This version takes inspiration from the greenery of creeks and riverbeds in the Hawaii region.
The hours are represented by large circled dots except 12h and 3h. 12h is indicated by a large triangle and at 3h no hour-marker is available due to date window, which has black digits on white background. The hour marker at 6h forms a turtle shape with added drawings.
The watch is fitted with a stainless steel bracelet. Customers will also receive an additional Ballistic Nylon NATO strap along with the packaging.
It is a unisex diving watch that means it can be worn by both men and women.
Flamingo Collective takes environmental impacts and sustainability very seriously. There will be no single-use plastics anywhere in the watch or packaging. Instead, they utilize materials that are fully recycled and biodegradable. This also factored into the choice of including a hand-stitched fully vegan leather watch travel roll, to not only keep the watch safe in transit but to also show eco-consciousness and reusability can be stylish.
The Turtle Conservation Professional Dive Watch Kickstarter campaign is online since 29 July 2020 and you can avail the special discounts by backing the project.
