CIRCULA WATCHES

CIRCULA is a German watch brand that produces mechanical timepieces inspired by the great horology traditions of Pforzheim. Located in the Black Forest region of Germany, Pforzheim is a historic centre renowned for its jewellery and watchmaking industries.

This brand’s origins can be traced back to 1955, when Heinz Huber founded a company in Pforzheim to design, manufacture and sell watches of his own.

Heinz Huber was a member of the Huber family that owned the jewelry and watch wholesaler Huber & Co. since 1926. After the Second World War, he decided to revive his family business of trading watches and jewelry as well as to set up a watch making company. In 1955, Heinz Huber founded the watch brand Circula.

In 2017, the brand Circula was re-launched by Cornelius Huber, the grandson of Heinz Huber. Cornelius launched an online crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds to produce a modernized new edition of the Circula watches.

The campaign was successful. The relaunch collection featured vintage inspired, Swiss quartz movement powered wristwatches featuring elegant and minimalistic design. After this campaign, Circula introduced new mechanical timepieces equipped with automatic and hand-wound calibers. Cornelius Huber’s father Klaus-Dieter Huber continues to help him in the business.

Some of the Circula mechanical watch models are equipped with the original in-house movements from the legendary German movement manufactory Pforzheimer-Rohwerke GmbH (P.U.W). These meticulously crafted mechanical hand-wound and automatic watches belong to the brand’s limited Heritage collection.

Cornelius Huber secured this rare treasure of New Old Stock (NOS) made 100% in Germany movements from a collector. All individual parts were manufactured in the late 1970s by P.U.W. (Pforzheimer Uhren Rohwerke GmbH) exclusively in Germany, in the city of Pforzheim. Interestingly, the mechanical movements from P.U.W. were already used in Circula’s first watches in 1955.

The historic and precise movements are assembled by hand, carefully regulated and encased in modern, high-grade stainless-steel cases with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Circula has also designed the dials especially for the Heritage collection. These valuable movements are constructed for a long life with high precision. In addition to the movements, Circula was able to secure enough spare parts to ensure long-term service.

The design of the modern Circula watches is based on the first models from the 1950s, with domed and anti-reflective sapphire crystal, multiple screwed sapphire crystal case back and dials with hand-applied indexes. The watches are built in Pforzheim – from the first movement screw to the encasing.

For those who prefer a modern movement, Circula offers the non-limited Classic collection with the very reliable Japanese Miyota 9015. In addition to the Heritage and Classic collections, the brand also offers quartz watches (Retro Quartz Collection) equipped with Swiss Ronda movements.

The Circula watches – named after the circulating balance wheel in mechanical timepieces – are available through the brand’s online shop.
