The independent US watchmaker J.N. Shapiro has created a special edition watch in partnership with Collective, a global community dedicated to the passionate collectors of fine watchmaking creations. This timepiece belongs to Infinity Series, the flagship collection of the Los Angeles based luxury brand established by Josh Shapiro.
The J.N. Shapiro Infinity Series offers exceptional mechanical watches that pay tribute to the traditional dial decorative methods like engine turning. This elegant mechanical watch collection made in USA is a uniquely modern expression of the rich history of engine turned dials.
The story of J.N. Shapiro Watches starts with the founder’s love of history and the traditional and mysterious engine-turning techniques. His extensive reading of the great horological book ‘Watchmaking’ by the legendary master watchmaker George Daniels inspired him to learn more and explore the traditional watchmaking skills.
Josh Shapiro began his career as a school teacher specialized in History. After learning watchmaking, dial engine-turning (guilloche) techniques and machining, he set up his own watch brand named J.N. Shapiro. In addition to his involvement in the watchmaking activities, he still continues to practice his teaching skills as a high school principal.
His passion for the art of crafting engine turned dials has been a major inspiration for the brand’s Infinity Series timepieces. The most striking aesthetic feature of each of his timepiece is its multi-level engine-turned dial with the signature “Infinity Weave” pattern exclusive to J.N. Shapiro.
His newest project is attempting something never seen even in the modern era of innovative artisan timepieces: engine-turning an intricate pattern into a dial made from a 4 billion year-old meteorite.
This painstakingly handcrafted specimen is the centerpiece on the Infinity Series P.01 – a new watch designed in collaboration with the global watch enthusiast community Collective.
As part of Collective’s new ‘Portfolio Series,’ the P.01 is the first in an ongoing run of highly limited and unique watches from some of the foremost names in independent watch manufacture. Each of these watches will only be made available to new or existing members of Collective.
The exclusive Infinity Series P.01 watch is based on the signature Infinity Series watch from Josh Shapiro, which is characterized by an ornate engine-turned dial pattern.
This timepiece is powered by an in-house manufactured calibre from Uhren Werke Dresden (UWD). This mechanical manual-wound movement has 19 jewels, beats at 21 600 vph and features second stop device. It can provide a power reserve up to 53 hours. This exclusive caliber can be admired through the sapphire crystal case-back.
The UHREN-WERKE-DRESDEN is a Dresden (Germany) based movement manufacture founded by the newly formed business venture Tempus Arte Group, which also owns the luxury watch brand LANG & HEYNE.
This movement and the watch it is cased in are both assembled, hand-finished, and regulated in Shapiro’s Los Angeles atelier.
Dressed in a classic 40mm case, the watch is water resistant up to 30 meters. Each dial, along with its accompanying hands and serial plate are all made in-house by Shapiro.
The Infinity Series P.01 from Josh Shapiro for Collective is limited to ten pieces, and will be available in the buyer’s choice of one of three metals: stainless steel, white gold, or rose gold. Pricing starts at $21,500 in stainless steel.
