Louis Chevrolet, the watch brand based in Porrentruy in Switzerland, presents Frontenac, its latest collection of timepieces featuring the unique flying-date mechanism. To raise funds of this brand new collection, Louis Chevrolet launched a Kickstarter campaign on 11th March 2020.
The flying-date is a patent-pending and unique date display mechanism developed by Louis Chevrolet Watch Company. You can find this innovative date indicator in Louis Chevrolet’s watch collections like Frontenac Three-hands and Frontenac Chronograph models for men as well as No.8 Chronograph model for women.
The concept of the flying date is to report the reading of the day of the month at various positions on the watch dial. The date indication “flies” 360 degrees around the dial. This is an original, aesthetic and technical way to display the evolution of time from day to day. This innovation now makes it possible to integrate the calendar directly on the watch dial and to get out of the conventional use of it. This therefore requires modifications to the watch movements used on these models operations that are carried out within the factory. A patent under validation has been filed out for this system.
Louis Chevrolet is presently promoting the Frontenac three-hands with flying-date model on Kickstarter. Aim of this crowd-funding campaign is to raise an amount of minimum $20,278 to kick start the mass production of these watches. Backers will get a 30% discount on the future retail price of the watches.
The Frontenac collection is proposed in both Automatic and Quartz versions. Both types of watches share same case dimensions: 43mm diameter, 11m thickness, 22mm lug width and 51.8mm lug-to-lug length. Made from stainless steel, the case is water resistant to 50 meters. The front glass is sapphire crystal with AR coating on both sides.
The Frontenac Automatic (LC 9) version is equipped with ETA 2824/2 self-winding movement, which can be admired through the transparent case back. Automatic version has a power reserve of 38 hours. The Frontenac Automatic (LC 9) will have ‘Swiss made’ label. This is because the design, engineering, production, assembly and control of automatic models follow the existing Swiss regulations of obtaining Swiss Made certification. Four automatic models are available: Steel, PVD Black, PVD Rose Gold and PVD Blue.
The Frontenac Quartz (LC 11) version is equipped with the Swiss Ronda calibre R515 movement. The Quartz versions will be inscribed with ‘Swiss Movement’ because its production requires involvement of non-Swiss suppliers to ensure the affordable price range. The case back of quartz models will feature a honey-comb decorative pattern. Five quartz models are available: Grey, Red, Yellow, Khaki and Blue.
All the models feature illuminated dial details to ensure night time reading. The luminous material (SLN C1) will be applied to the watch’s skeleton hands, indexes, the date indicator and the circular digital calendar.
These Louis Chevrolet Timepieces are supplied with a perforated leather strap with pin buckle or a nylon strap.
Based in Porrentruy, Louis Chevrolet Swiss Watches sells since 2006 watches designed and manufactured in its factory. The brand name pays tribute to the eponymous man, of Swiss origin, founder of the “Chevrolet Motor Car Company”. The factory is located less than 10km from the place where Louis Chevrolet spent his childhood. As a reference to the brand’s inspirational source, all timepieces from this collection highlight Louis Chevrolet’s slogan ‘Never Give Up’ engraved on the case side between the lugs.
Pledges available during the Kickstarter campaign starts from CHF 358 for each Frontenac Quartz (LC 11) model and CHF 568 for each Frontenac Automatic (LC 9) timepiece. The campaign is ending on 14 April 2020 and estimated delivery in July 2020.
