Based in Belgium, Van Bricht is a luxury watch atelier established by Sébastien Lambricht and Bernard Van Ormelingen. The brand name Van Bricht was created by combining the family names of the founders. In 2019, the brand unveiled its first timepiece: the Old Mind, a manual-wound tourbillon watch incorporating hand-guilloche dial.
Both Sébastien & Bernard are graduated from the same watchmaking school located in Namur in Belgium (I.A.T.A.).
Sébastien Lambricht completed with a first internship at Rolex Benelux and at the after-sales services of Patek Philip Benelux. Graduated in 2012, he firstly started with a watchmaker position at the Tollet Jewellery store situated in Brussels. After that, he had worked for more than 4 years for the Chronograph Company based in Genval, within the after-sales department where he was taking care about brands such as: Bell & Ross, Raidillon, Lebeau-courally, Louis Erard, Vulcan or Raymond Weil. Shortly afterwards, he became the watchmaker responsible of the International after sales service of Ressence Watch House. Currently at the Head of the workshop located at Ressence’s Headquarters in Antwerp, he has also the role as a prototyper-watchmaker in constant search of watchmaking improvement for the brand.
You will discover his talent in the conception of the Van Bricht’s casing-up system and in the open view on the dial by the special glass. The assembly, control, and casing-up have been performed by him, respecting the highest watchmaking standards that may exist nowadays.
Bernard, 21 years old, Belgian, newly graduated watchmaker but above all, he is the only apprentice of Mr Alain Lovenberg, the master-engraver based in Belgium. Bernard is one of the youngest guillocheur of his generation. In the meantime that Bernard was following the school of Horlogerie he was trained in hand engraving and guilloche. He established a company called Bernies s.c. specialized in hand made guilloche of watch dials. To answer to the specific client’s requests of Bernies s.c, Bernard has to travel regularly to France, Switzerland and Germany to provide handmade guilloche dials integrated in the production of new watches collections.
Bernard had the privilege to perform his end of studies internship in Jaeger-LeCoultre (Switzerland) in watchmaking but also in the department of “Métiers Rares” (guilloche) where he obtained the highest distinction. In addition, although Bernard is more oriented towards old techniques and tools, he has an excellent 3-D view in computer design, allowing him to convert a manual drawing into a virtual production ready for the machining of certain watch parts, like for the watchcase of the Van Bricht.
Bernard and Sébastien met at the initiative of one of their common watchmaking teachers in the jewellery shop. Their regular meetings and discussions gradually paved the way for developing a new brand for producing hand-made watches incorporating hand guilloche, engraving and customization.
This name Old Mind has been chosen to focus on old know-how and to promote their vision of the future what about fine watchmaking (hand guilloche or hand chamfered, engraving etc.) Featuring a monochrome style, this timepiece integrates the complexity of the tourbillon with old hand guilloche techniques, combining them with know-how.
With carefully selected dimensions, the watch combines new casing-up technologies, put forward old know-how of ancestral art of guilloche and refined watchmaking. The casing-up system of the watch case designed by Sébastien is innovative and allows the placing of a particular spherical sapphire crystal glass. The 40mm watch case with its particular design offers an opened view on the full space dial. This dimension allows a stainless steel watch case 316L of 7 mm of thickness on which one they adjust a particular glass to arrive to the final and global thickness of 10.6 mm. Diameter of the guilloched dial is 37 mm.
This watch has a double opened side case. The back of the case is also provided with a glass to admire the hand chamfered movement with a unique engraving style. The watch case is comfortable to wear thanks to horns and its bottom which respect the shape of the wrist.
The back of the watchcase is engraved by hand by Mr Alain Lovenberg, the master-engraver world-wide known for his talent in ancestral techniques of special engraving, including letters and monograms, gun & knives engraving (scrolls, guimpes, rosace), ornamental relief engraving, the inlay of precious metals.
Beating heart of the watch is a real movement prototype based on a Swiss movement which has been entirely revisited, redesigned, reworked and adapted to the particular casing-up system of the watch. The first series of 25 Van Bricht watches will have this Swiss watch movement.
This manual-winding movement (VB2129) that drives hour and minutes is equipped with a 60-seconds tourbillon at 6ó clock. Beating at 3 Hz (21600 vph) and equipped with 19 jewels, the movement is capable of providing a power reserve up to 110 hours.
Sébastien & Bernard propose two hand-guilloche dial versions in this 25 pieces limited edition series.
The first version features a dial fully hand-guilloched by Bernard with a revised Moiré design “new generation” on solid silver bleached support. This design is rarely used in high watchmaking. The second version comes with a dial fully hand-guilloched by Bernard with Barleycorn rounded design on solid silver bleached support.
In both dial versions, the complications of 60 sec tourbillon appear just like in a “timeless tunnel”. The tourbillon’s complexity blends perfectly with the design of the case opened on the dial, which it is the starting point of the guilloche.
The spherical shaped front glass that almost covers the entire diameter of the watch is made with sapphire crystal. The thickness of the glass is about 1.1 mm and its height of 2.97 gives a good overview on the watch hands. Made in steel, the watch hands are hand polished, and their length is adapted to the index of the watches. The minutes hand comes close the circle index. The hour hand goes through the center of the B of the Van Bricht’s brand. The watch strap is handmade in leather of Kudu and ostrich. It is a hand sewn bracelet from Italy.
The delivery time for each watch will begin upon receipt of the deposit payment and is estimated at approximately 8 months. The unit price is 45000 Euros (shipping and taxes calculated at checkout).
