This special edition Seiko 5 Sports watch takes inspiration from the iconic ‘‘Red Special’’ Guitar of rock legend Brian May, the lead guitarist of Queen, one of the world’s most admired and celebrated rock bands. He is also an admirer of Seiko watches.
For more than 40 years, Brian May has worn a Seiko diver’s watch whose enduringly popular design is the inspiration for the latest Seiko 5 Sports collection. Brian bought his Seiko watch while first on tour in Japan in the 1970’s. Since then his guitar and watch have travelled the globe together, making great music and keeping great time.
Dressed in a 42.5mm diameter case, this stainless steel the Brian May Seiko 5 Sports model is a limited edition of 9,000 pieces.
The beautiful dial of this limited edition Seiko 5 Sports watch echoes the design of the guitar which Brian and his father built in the early 1960’s. The Seiko Brian May SRPE83K1 has a long-trusted automatic movement at its heart. Topped with a Hardlex crystal glass, the robust steel case is water-resistant up to 100m.
The dial has the same red and black color scheme as the ‘‘Red Special’’ and features a delicate wood-like pattern like the body of the guitar.
This limited edition watch features Brian’s signature on the glass case back, which also offers the view of Seiko 4R36 self-winding calibre.
It comes with a special presentation box designed on the lines of the Red Special’s custom flight case. The presentation box also contains a commemorative coin that is based on the sixpenny piece that Brian has used throughout his career as a plectrum.
The watch comes fitted on a black nylon strap, designed to mirror the strap that Brian now uses on his guitar. Its suggested retail price in Europe is €560.
