In 2017, the Italian soccer legend Andrea Pirlo approached the luxury watch customization specialist Artisans de Genève to modify his favorite timepiece. He wanted his Rolex Submariner to feature a skeleton movement while keeping its original elegance and style.
This special project took almost two years to complete, involving 37 of the most passionate craftsmen all over Switzerland in order to achieve this dream and be able to modify the mythic 3130 movement of the champion’s watch.
The openwork dial and its pure lines reveal each detail of the skeleton movement which bears rose gold indexes that enhance this piece. Andrea Pirlo chose a carbon forged bezel, a lightweight and resistant material that gives his timepiece a modern allure.
The case features an exclusive combination of know-how: satin lugs, a sandblasted and polished finishing. This delicate and distinctive work provides contrast and shine to the timepiece.
Artisans de Genève worked with Julien Tixier, a young watchmaker from La Vallée de Joux to develop a balance bridge that is entirely handmade.
As a final and delicate touch, Artisans de Genève designed an exclusive rotor, engraved with the inscription “Il Maestro 1995-2017”
The movement is entirely reworked, each component is dismounted, cut and bevelled by hand. The bevelling is made by Philippe Narbel, an expert who embellishes each element with interior angles, a painstaking technique only mastered by a few craftsmen, giving sharpness and depth to the timepiece. The result offers a complete new insight of the 3130 caliber of Andrea Pirlo’s timepiece.
