Trilobe Les Matinaux

With their debut watch collection “Les Matinaux”, Trilobe, the Swiss luxury watch brand founded by Gautier Massonneau, is introducing a new and revolutionary way of reading time.

The Trilobe watch was born from a meeting between Gautier Massonneau, the creator of Trilobe and Jean-François Mojon, the spearhead of Swiss watchmaking excellence who is driven by an extraordinary passion for the most sophisticated complications.

The brand was officially launched on December 17, 2018 at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris. Trilobe revealed its first collection “Les Matinaux” at the time of its first participation to Baselworld in March 2019.

The Trilobe watch does not feature any hands to indicate hour, minute and seconds, instead the brand developed an innovative and handless dial system featuring three eccentric and rotating rings and corresponding trilobes.

The brand takes its inspiration from the world of design and architecture. The word Trilobe refers to an ornamental pattern widely seen in a number of historical buildings in France. This ornamental pattern gives the brand its name. The Trilobe watch incorporates this architectural motif to symbolize the three pillars of time – hours, minutes and seconds.

In its dial side, the watch features three rotating rings with graduated scales: The largest ring for hours, the median one for minutes, and the smallest one for seconds.

These rings turn counterclockwise. The hour, minute and seconds can be read using the respective trilobe shaped indicators. The skeleton design of the seconds disc takes inspiration from the radiant architecture of the famed stained glass windows at Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.

A savvy mix of boldness and poetry, the innovative display of time of this watch is driven by a highly modified 2892 automatic movement with X-Centric module, manufactured by Jean-François Mojon. The patented X-Centric module is made with 103 tailor-made, developed and assembled parts. It took over 3 years of R&D to develop this module.

Case is made of 316L stainless steel and features mirror-polished surfaces alternating with satin brushed treatments. Leather straps are made in Paris; by a team of artisans from a “Living Heritage Company”. Its case back features engravings of geometric drawing of trilobe.

The brand HQ is based in Paris and it is in Switzerland, in the canton of Neuchâtel that each Trilobe watch is created. Thanks to its revolutionary design concept, the Les Matinaux watch from Trilobe has also secured a place at pre-selected watches final list under the “PETITE AIGUILLE” category in the prestigious GPHG awards 2019.
