Swiss luxury watch brand Corum unveils two Round, 43 Art Deco limited editions of the Golden Bridge, combining the aesthetic of the baguette movement with that of suspension bridges.
Architecture is a transversal theme already largely explored by Corum. Recently, the Golden Bridge Stream, Round and Rectangle collections lent their unique aesthetics to compositions combining art and architecture, technique and aesthetic, creativity and respect for Fine Watchmaking traditions.
The new Golden Bridge Round 43 Art Deco continues this renewed vision of the watchmaking art. The legendary baguette movement dominates in all its length, at the centre of the piece, vertically. This unique watchmaking composition has become one of the identifying hallmarks of Corum. Its gold bridges and mainplate are engraved with the brand name and finish at 6 o’clock by the crown, used for time setting and the winding of the 40-hour power reserve.
Four symmetrical series of cables extend across both sides of the movement. They continue the architectural inspiration of the aptly named “Bridge” collection. The piece links to the “bridge” that keeps its gear train in motion for those who travel across cities and rivers to connect with others. An age-old symbol of openness, of encounter, the bridge has always been one of the most complex works of art ever created, a technical prowess capable of defying centuries and the elements.
The CORUM Golden Bridge Round 43 Art Deco watch endorses this heritage and its symbolism. No fewer than 16 cables in brass, a watchmaking material par excellence, are drawn from the titanium 43-mm case and settle higher up, underneath the flange. The construction, suspended in the void, conjures up the aesthetic of the largest bridges ever built: the Millau Viaduct (France), the famous Øresund Bridge that connects Denmark to Sweden, Malaysia’s 13.5km-long Penang Bridge, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan, etc.
This unprecedented construction in watchmaking underlines the aerial character of the baguette movement. The CO113 calibre and these 16 cables succeed in combining the light and suspended expression of movement with the power and resistance of the cabled structure.
Available in two series strictly limited to 188 pieces, the CORUM Golden Bridge Round 43 Art Deco watch is available in a rhodium or gold finish (movement, cables, crown) on a black vulcanised rubber bracelet.
