Tockr Skytrain Collection

Tockr announces its latest aviation-inspired watch collection known as the Tockr Skytrain.

The Austin, Texas-based independent watch brand setout to create a classic new watch design that features a streamlined dial design but retains the brand’s signature aviation-inspired DNA. Tockr invited watch lovers from around the world to contribute names for this classic new model. The name ‘Skytrain’ was selected as the winner on Saturday, June 15, alluding both to Tockr’s aviation roots and the brand’s historic ties to the iconic C-47 “Skytrain” warbird.

Third generation pilot and Tockr watches Founder Austin Ivey’s passion for flight has remained as strong as his love of watches. Ivey’s grandfather, decorated C-47 pilot Eugene Xerxes Martin, Jr. flew a “Skytrain” on 52 different missions throughout World War II, and later named the family’s Dallas grocery store after the C-47.Given this history, the C-47 “Skytrain” aircraft has become a recurring inspiration for Tockr and that theme carries on in the name of the new Tockr Skytrain model.

While Tockr is rooted in aviation and history, the young watch brand is also known to have cultivated deep connections in the watch community, both online and off, generating a unique two-way conversation with customers that significantly informs the brand’s design strategy. The independent watchmaker has always welcomed fan feedback, and the brand created the “Skytrain” model to satisfy requests for a simple and classic Tockr watch. Its streamlined look was achieved by omitting a date window and keeping details subtle, like the applied indices. At the same time, Tockr maintained its identity as an aviation-inspired watch brand with the crosshair dial design and the airplane on the second hand.

The Tockr team had all the elements of a compelling new watch model but couldn’t settle on a model name that would fit in with the brand’s existing collections. The brand designed to open the conversation up to its network of watch lovers and fans with a Tockr “No Name” contest. Within a month, over 1,200 contest entries had poured in, offering creative names for the “No Name” watch.

Tockr Skytrain‘The winning entry, “Skytrain,” was submitted by Joseph W. in the contest run by online wrist-watch enthusiast publication aBlogtoWatch throughout the month of May 2019. Knowing Tockr’s history, Joseph was inspired to submit the name Skytrain in honor of the C-47, the official name the U.S. Army gave to the C-47 in 1941 (making the C-47 the first airplane in the country’s history to be identified by both name and number.)In honor of his winning contest entry, Joseph will travel to Austin, Texas to receive his own Tockr Skytrain model directly from Austin Ivey at Tockr headquarters.
