The new watch model RAW Ornament from the Dutch watch brand Holthinrichs Watches is a successor and industrial counterpart of Ornament 1, made by the Delft based watchmaker and designer Michiel Holthinrichs.
Holthinrichs Watches is a pioneer in 3D printed watches, their latest model shows the industrial characteristics of this technique. Where Holthinrichs polishes the entire watchcase of his first model Ornament 1 by hand, to give the watch a classic and timeless appearance, the stylistically contrasting RAW Ornament is designed by such that only selective details are polished to a high gloss finish. By showing the intrinsic aesthetics of the production process, Holthinrichs aims to give the watch a contemporary look.
The design of RAW Ornament is inspired by the work of early modern architects, such as Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer and Eero Saarinen. Holthinrichs takes their distinctive expressive use of materials and structural clearness. RAW Ornament is completely designed and developed in-house.
RAW Ornament’s case, buckle and crown are 3D-printed in surgical steel. The movement (ETA 7001) is finished and engraved by hand and visible at the rear. The hands and dial have a satin finish and is produced manually in-house.
