Introduced in 2018, the 901 RS limited edition is the first ever stainless steel bracelet watch from REC Watches. This automatic wristwatch incorporates recycled parts from one of the most sought-after and iconic sports cars ever built – the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7.
The REC 901 collection offers timepieces incorporating recycled parts from salvaged Porsche 911’s. This REC 901 timepiece incorporates recycled parts of a legendary Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 made in 1973. The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the donor car is 9113600237.
The first owner of the Donor car was none other than the famous German Racing driver Clemens Schickentanz, who won both the GT European Championship and several World Championship rounds in the GT class. After sometime, the German rally driver Peter Rumpfkeil brought this car. During his 3-year ownership the car participated in several rallies, including the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally in the years 1976 and 1977 and Lombard RAC Rally in 1976.
In 1982 the battered 911 RS was acquired by Danish car enthusiast Jørgen Schultz, who initially was completely unaware of the rarity of the car. When he became aware that the car he had acquired was an original Carrera RS, he began restoring it over the next 3 decades until he finally sold the car in 2015, leaving several unusable parts most of which are now incorporated in the Limited Edition 901-RS watch. The details are all included in the scannable storycard, which accompanies every 901 RS Limited Edition timepiece.
The ’73 air-cooled Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911-derived race car and the first production race 911 widely offered to the public. Only 1,580 were produced and prices on those still around have since skyrocketed, making it one the most sought-after and legendary sports cars ever built.
The 901 RS is the very first timepiece from REC Watches introduced on a metal bracelet. This one-of-a- kind stainless steel bracelet follows the curvature lines of the 901 case shape – taking inspiration from the characteristic soft, curving corners of the classic Porsche 911.
The dial of the 901 RS is cut directly from a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS and coated with a grey, semitransparent lacquer, ensuring that no two dials are identical. The 901 RS black and yellow color scheme is a tribute to the original colors of the donor vehicle.
The case-back of the watch is inspired by the iconic 911 Otto Fuchs Rims – including the rotor decoration resembling drilled brake discs.
The 901 RS is engraved with the ‘VIN’ (Vehicle Identification Number) of its organ donor. The crown is designed to mirror the horn cap of the early 911 steering wheels.
The REC 901RS watch houses a Miyota Cal. 9100 Automatic movement that drives three timekeeping hands, Calendar (day, date & month) and the power reserve display positioned at 12 o’ clock. The movement has a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. Its 44mm diameter stainless steel case is fitted with a sapphire crystal front glass and a solid case-back featuring K1 mineral crystal glass.
Limited to 250 pieces, the REC 901RS watch is exclusively available at selected official retailers with a retail price of $1,995.00 USD.
