To celebrate this, Moritz Grossmann has launched a special ‘advent calender’ on their website. Each “door” on the advent calendar reveals the 24x unique pieces on auction at Christie’s. From November 27 until 10 December, the online auction offers an exciting opportunity for watch connoisseurs to purchase handcrafted single edition watches from Glashütte, the birthplace of German watchmaking.

On 11 November 2008, Christine Hutter founded Grossmann Uhren using the distinguished name of the co-founder of the Glashütte watch industry and initiator of the German School of watchmaking in Glashütte, Moritz Grossmann. In doing so, she ensured that the legacy of the highly respected watch pioneer was revived after around 130 years. Since 2008 the company has been manufacturing watches to the highest standards in a classic yet contemporary design.

This collection of 24 pieces showcases the best of Moritz Grossmann’s past, present and future watchmaking tradition and the diverse skill set of its master watchmakers. Each of the unique pieces gracefully demonstrates that nothing of the tradition, craftsmanship and innovation have been lost in Moritz Grossmann’s 130 year dormancy.

The craftsmanship involved in creating these 24 unique timepieces belies the fact that it is a mere 10 years since the manufactory’s revival and is testament to the company’s namesake, Moritz Grossmann. The common denominator of this collection is that every watch is unique. The classic German design and bold, contemporary pieces are the perfect embodiment of the slogan: ‘Schönstes deutsches Handwerk’ – ‘the most beautiful German craftsmanship’. Anyone can view the collection at Christie’s New York, 30 November-5 December 2018. The online auction started on 27 November at Christie’s website, and runs until the 10 & 11 December 2018 (Sale no. 16375).
