Fears Brunswick “Midas”

Fears Watches has announced its second model in the Brunswick watch family – the Brunswick “Midas”.

Named after King Midas from Greek mythology, this new hand-built watch is presented in a special, unique shade of gold inspired by the rolled-gold cases used by Fears in the 1940-70s.

Like the steel Brunswick, the Brunswick “Midas” will be made in very small batches, each watch being hand built in Great Britain. The case of the “Midas” is made from Phosphor Bronze which is coated in 18ct Rose gold before a top coat of 9ct Yellow gold is applied.

The careful application of both colours and carat weights of gold combine to produce the special, warm shade of gold. Visible through the exhibition case back is the watch’s Swiss ETA 7001 manual winding movement, which has its bridges ‘stippled’ before receiving the same dual-gold coating.

The Brunswick “Midas” features the same cold resin enamel dial as the steel Brunswick but with Fears skeleton hands that match the case and movement having been dual-gold coated.

The new watch is joined by a range of premium straps featuring special leather made by Thomas Ware & Sons in Bristol. The tannery was established six years before Fears in 1840. Based in Bristol, they create leathers in the traditional way using hides from British cattle.

The leather straps start life with a matt understated finish before naturally polishing over time the more they’re worn. The Bristol Leather Straps are available in three colours; Bristol Black, Fears Ultra Dark Blue and English Tan.

All three shades feature a new dark blue lining, embossed with “Bristol Leather”, as well as quick release spring-bars for easy fitting. These premium Bristol Leather Straps now come fitted on new Brunswick watches as well as being offered separately as an additional strap to existing Fears watch owners.

The Fears Brunswick “Midas” will retail for £3,950 inc. VAT and will be available from Spring 2019 with pre-orders being taken.

The Fears Bristol Leather Straps are available in Bristol Black, Fears Ultra Dark Blue and English Tan in both ‘standard’ and ‘shorter’ sizes each retailing for £145 inc. VAT and are available to buy from the Fears online boutique from today. They are designed to fit all current Fears watches from the Brunswick and Redcliff collections as well as all watches with a 20mm lug width.
