Willer – Automatic Timepieces Inspired from Vintage Sports Cars and Classic Endurance Racing

With their online crowd funding campaign, young watch brand Willer aims for the commercial production of automatic timepieces inspired from vintage sports cars, their dashboard elements and classic endurance racing in the design. These watches combine classic designer features with both modern stylish look and retro driven aesthetics.

Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Carrera Panamericana are some examples of classic car racing events from the brand draws inspiration. For example, Brescia and Roma models from the starting collection of Willer are named after two vital points on the route of Mille Miglia – one of the most famous classic endurance races in Italy.

In terms of design, Willer watches draw inspiration from the analogue dashboard instruments and vintage sports watches used during the golden era of classic endurance racing.

In these watches, you can discover several features that remind us various components of a classic racing car. Measuring 42mm diameter and 12mm thickness, the watch case in stainless steel case resembles a tyre in shape and decoration.

The watch crown also looks like a wheel from the side and is shaped like a set of tires. Water resistance of the watch is 5 atm/50 meters.

The dial is stylized as a revolution counter with applied indexes in retro font and decorative hands covered in the tire-textured case and protected with the sapphire coated crystal. The second hand is shaped after a wheel disc that “rides” smoothly through the minute on the dial.

The date window with a magnifying glass in the bottom of the dial is well protected with a brushed metal plate, which is screwed tightly to its surface. The design pattern on the dial refers to traces of a braking distance, a nod to the dangerous natural curves of classic endurance racing courses.

The red area on the dial is also a reference to the old sports cars and their revolution counters, showing drivers the limits of their car’s engines long before electronic tools came to the rescue. The watch hands and numerals incorporate C3 super-luminova for ensuring night time visibility.

These Willer watch models are equipped with automatic Seiko NH35 movement manufactured in Japan. This movement is visible through the transparent case-back.

Italy plays a very important role when it comes to car racing. It is home to some of the major race car makers in the world. It also has some fantastic racing circuits and Mille Miglia is one of the most famous classic endurance races in Italy.

Also, Italy is a leading centre for leather straps industry. To highlight the Italian spirit, Willer has decided to secure their watches with high quality leather straps manufactured by a small tannery in Milan, Italy.

The Willer Kickstarter campaign with €20 000 (Appx $22,945) goal mainly offers two watch models: Silver Brescia and Black Roma with prices starting from € 204. If the campaign hits €45 000 stretch goal, the brand will unlock new color option like Monochrome and Ferrari Yellow with a Gunmetal case, Mild Blue with a Silver case or Champions’ Gold edition with a Golden case.

The Willer Kickstarter campaign will be closed on 24 November 2018.
