ORLO Ticonite – The World’s First Completely Scratch-proof Titanium Diver’s Watch

Lighter than stainless steel and resistant to corrosion, titanium is a great material for making sports and diving watches. Unfortunately, titanium watches scratch easily. For the first time in watch making, Danish brand ORLO utilizes the properties of Ticonite to enhance the scratch resistance of titanium watches.

Developed by the Technical University of Denmark, Ticonite is a revolutionary, completely scratchproof titanium material made with a patented surface hardening technology using heat and certain gasses in a highly controlled manufacturing environment. This gives Ticonite a surface hardness of 1200HV, without changing its appearance, and makes Ticonite 3-5 times harder than untreated conventional titanium and stainless steel. Ticonite maintains its superior properties in terms of strength, extreme corrosion-resistance, and incredible low weight.

Partnering with the Technical University of Denmark, ORLO is launching the first-ever Ticonite watch in the world – the ORLO Ticonite. The ORLO Ticonite is powered with a Miyota Caliber 9015, 24 jewel automatic movement. The watch is worn on a natural black rubber strap. Measuring 42 mm in diameter, this diving watch is super light and waterproof to 12 ATM (120 m). The watch features domed sapphire crystal glass, SuperLuminova dial and hands, and a screw case back and crown.

The ORLO Ticonite is available for Super Early Bird backers on Kickstarter at a price of USD 900. This is 50% off the suggested retail price of USD 1,800.
