Dutch-Swedish watch brand MAEN has launched an online crowd funding campaign for their Hudson Automatic diving watch collection. Taking inspiration from the vintage dive watch designs, this timepiece houses the state of the art ETA 2824-2 automatic caliber manufactured in Switzerland.
For the watch case, MAEN has chosen 316L stainless steel. This watch is available in two case sizes: 38mm for a vintage appeal or 42mm for a contemporary touch. Backers of the campaign will be able to pick between 38mm and 42mm in the survey that will be send post successful funding of the project.
The Hudson boasts an interesting and legible dial with an option to choose from four different dial colors. The dial is sandblasted in order to get a beautiful texture and the chapter ring gives the dial extra depth and detail. The long lug to lug height, narrow bezel and domed glass adds further vintage style to the timepiece.
Regarding exterior finishing, lugs of the watch feature an angled satin brushed effect and the side of the case has a polished finish. The contrast between the brushed and polished effects creates extra depth to the look of the watch from many angles. The case measures a thickness of only 10,5mm.
The watch comes with two case back options: see-through case back featuring scratch resistant crystal sapphire glass or closed case back. The first option enables the wearer to admire the Automatic ETA 2824-2 movement through the transparent glass. With the open case back, watch will have a water resistance of 10 ATM (100m) where as the closed case back version has a water resistance of 20 ATM (200m).
The watch is also available in date or no-date versions. The hands of the Hudson Automatic are custom designed.
The hour markers, hour hand and minute hand are equipped with C3 Superluminova that provides very good illumination. It has a nice cream white look in daylight and a turquoise green illumination in the dark. The Midnight Blue and Ghost White models also have lume on the second hand.
The Hudson Automatic is equipped with vintage styled domed sapphire glass with double anti reflective coating on the inside of the glass to reduce reflections. The watch also features a narrow, vintage style bezel made of stainless steel with aluminium insert and black coating. This 120 clicks unidirectional bezel features a triangle at the 12 o’clock.
The Hudson Automatic comes standard with a satin brushed stainless steel bracelet with double lock deployant clasp. The brand is also offering a free black nato strap with the watch. Further, all watches come with the tools required to change the straps and customize the bracelet length. Thanks to the aesthetic and unique design elements, this dive watch can also be worn as an elegant dress watch.
The ETA 2824-2 automatic movement powering this dive watch has a power reserve of ~38 hours. It features a custom engraved the rotor with MAEN brand logo. Each Hudson Automatic watch comes fitted with a stainless steel bracelet packed in a luxury watch box along with black NATO strap, instruction manual, bracelet adjustment tool and spring bar tool.
During the Kickstarter crowd funding campaign which ends on 31 May 2018 backers of the project can pre-order the Hudson Automatic dive watch with pledge levels starting from €349. Delivery planned from Sep 2018.
