TUTIMA WATCHES

The history of the Tutima brand began in 1927 in Glashütte, a legendary town with a global reputation and a name that is synonymous with high-quality timepieces and with a historical highlight from Tutima. It was in the Saxon Mecca of artistic watchmaking that Tutima’s Flieger chronograph first took off on its high flight in 1941 – and went on to become a ticking legend.

The father of the brand’s success is Dr. Ernst Kurtz, a pioneer and a visionary. The director of the Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik(UROFA) and the Uhrenfabrik Glashütte AG (UFAG),ennobled his best models with the epithet “Tutima”, which is derived from the Latin word tutus, i.e. “safe” or “secure”.

Dr. Ernst Kurtz, a visionary and a pioneer of industrial watch
fabrication in Germany, re-served the “Tutima” signature exclusively for
his best-quality timepieces

This name is a promise of quality that would steadfastly accompany the brand throughout its eventful history. Completely destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in Lower Saxony in 1951, the company continued its tradition of fabricating mechanical timepieces that set new standards for functionality, robustness and precision. Thanks to their superior technology, these sporty watches with instrument character soon earned an outstanding reputation – on land, at sea and in the air.

The story came full circle in 2011 when, after decades in exile, Tutima returned to its original hometown. The family-run business celebrated the resumption of manufacturing at the place of its founding by releasing the “Hommage”, the first authentic made-in-Glashütte minute repeater. This was soon followed by the debut of a whole new watch family: with the current Glashütte Collection, Tutima demonstrates the perfect fusion of traditional values and horological visions.

Saxon One, M2, Grand Flieger and Patria embody a dynamic generation of German watches that proudly continue a ninety-year-young success story.
