Longines Ambassador of Elegance Mikaela Shiffrin Wins Her Fifth Slalom Crystal Globe

Longines Ambassador of Elegance Mikaela Shiffrin has won her second Overall Crystal Globe in the FIS Alpine World Cup. With a total of 1773 points, she finished ahead of Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener with 1168 points and Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova with 977 points respectively.

Following an exceptional 2017/2018 FIS Alpine World Cup season, Mikaela also claimed the slalom crystal globe for the fifth time of her career, with no fewer than seven victories in this discipline this season. While she dominated the technical disciplines, the American skier also claimed a first impressive World Cup Downhill race in Lake Louise, Canada, back in December.

In the male category, Austria’s Marcel Hirscher won the Overall title for the seventh time, in front of Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen and Longines Ambassador of Elegance Aksel Lund Svindal.

As the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the FIS, the brand rewarded the overall winners and exceptional athletes Mikaela Shiffrin and Marcel Hirscher with elegant Longines timepieces during an official prize ceremony held in Åre, Sweden in the context of the FIS Alpine World Cup Finals.

This ceremony represented the culmination of a week of skiing in Åre that began with the Longines Future Ski Champions race. This year, the best skiers under 16 from twelve different countries faced off on the official World Cup course, timed by Longines, Official Partner of the FIS. They were supported by the event’s privileged patron and Ambassador of Elegance Mikaela Shiffrin, who was present at the bib draw ceremony.

It was in 2014 Mikaela Shiffrin joined the prestigious family of Longine Ambassadors of Elegance. The talented American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin wonthe Slalom World Championships 2013 at only age 17 and the Longines Rising Ski Stars prize twice in a row – for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons. This prize, organized by Longines, is awarded to the best female skier under the age of 21 and the best male skier under the age of 23 of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup.

Mikaela Shiffrin was born in USA on 13 March 1995. At the age of 3, Mikaela was introduced to the world of alpine skiing through her parents Eileen and Jeff who have been very supportive throughout her career. She grew up in the Vail valley and in New Hampshire and later attended Burke mountain academy in Vermont.

In March 2011 Mikaela had her debut on the World Cup. In November 2011, she had reached her first top 10 in the World Cup during her only second Slalom. Her first podium came shortly after in her only 5th Slalom, on the World Cup tour, in Lienz, in December 2011. Mikaela won her first World Cup race in Are, Sweden in December 2012.
