With the Modern Re-interpretation, Seiko pays homage to Seiko’s 1965 diver’s watch. Launched along with the Seiko First Diver’s Re-creation (reference SLA017J1) watch, these new Prospex timepieces (SPB051J1 and SPB053J1) echo the design of the 1965 original. Made according to modern standards, they also meet Seiko’s stringent standards for diver’s watches.
Both models come with super-hard coated stainless steel cases and unidirectional diving bezels. SPB051J1 (SBDC051*) has a black dial and matching bezel insert. SPB053J1 (SBDC053*) features a blue dial and matching bezel insert.
They come with wider hands with long-lasting Lumibrite so as to be highly legible even in dark water. The water resistance has been increased to 200 meters. AR coated sapphire crystal glass has been used for greater strength and durability.
The 42.6mm diameter case with the Zaratsu polished line on the sides adds a touch of contemporary refinement. Both models utilize the Seiko 6R15 Automatic movement rated for a 50-hour power reserve.
The Seiko Prospex SPB051J1 model comes with a stainless steel bracelet, whereas SPB053J1 features a highly durable and comfortable accordion-style silicone wristband.
The accordion strap was invented by Seiko in 1975 as a solution to the problem of the expansion and contraction of a diver’s wrist at different depths.
The new Seiko 1965 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation watches will be released in November, 2017.
