In partnership with Giugiaro Design, Seiko Watch Corporation presents a new special edition Astron GPS Solar watch, reference SSE121J1.
The Japanese watchmaking company’s partnership with Giorgetto Giugiaro founded design studio dates back to 1983 when both firms joined for creating the iconic Seiko Giugiaro Chronograph.
The new Astron Giugiaro Design watch combines Seiko’s state-of-the-art GPS Solar timekeeping technology with the outstanding and greatly admired Giugiaro design concept.
The watch houses the Astron 8X82 caliber, a GPS-controlled, solar-powered chronograph movement. It can measure elapsed time up to 6 hours and offers the astounding precision of one second every one hundred thousand years.
In addition and, like all Astron calibers, it delivers the ability to adjust to your local time, anywhere in the world, at the touch of a button.
The super-hard black coating on the case and bracelet in titanium improves scratch-resistance and preserve the sleekness for long years. The super-clear coated sapphire crystal glass is both durable and legible.
Launched in 1983, the first Seiko and Giugiaro Design watch was specially designed for motor sport activities. Its offset case allows the chronograph buttons to be used with ease, even when travelling at speed on a motor cycle.
The strong, sports look of the 1980’s Seiko Giugiaro Quartz Chronograph is visible in every detail of the Astron watch. Nevertheless, it has been updated for the next generation with lines that flow aerodynamically across the case, inspired by some of the stunning sports cars designed by Giugiaro Design.
The color combination of black, red and green is pure Giugiaro as is the unique design of the hands and the markers. The case back features a wheel design motif and individual serial number.
The Seiko Astron Giugiaro Design watch (reference SSE121J1) is a limited edition of 3,000 pieces. It will be available in July 2017 at leading Seiko retail outlets in selected markets worldwide.
