The new Avenue Classic Automatic evokes the glamorous Art Deco scene of New York in the 1930s, with a thoroughly modern heart, beating in perfect time thanks to its sophisticated automatic movement.
Named after Fifth Avenue, the most prestigious shopping address in the world and home to Harry Winston’s New York Flagship Salon, the Avenue Collection evokes the streamlined styling and urban sophistication of the Art Deco period, when Harry Winston founded his namesake business in 1932.
The new Avenue Collection Automatic recalls the scintillating past of the House of Harry Winston, but moves with the times thanks to its sophisticated automatic Swiss calibre. Marking the first time an Avenue Classic timepiece is fitted with an automatic movement, the word ‘automatic’ is proudly printed on the dial.
The refined rectangular 18-karat gold case of the Avenue Classic Automatic is set with 29 brilliant-cut diamonds and a truncated diamond in the crown, which sparkles like a New York skyscraper at night. The classic arches, positioned at either end of the case, are diminutive recreations of the famous arched doorway of Harry Winston’s Fifth Avenue Salon and an iconic feature of the Avenue Collection.
Set against a beaded mother-of-pearl canvas, the vintage typography used for the numerals perfectly complements the Art Deco mood of the timepiece. The minute track, a novelty which will be appearing on all Avenue timepieces this year, is outlined with 42 diamonds in the shape of an emerald-cut diamond, in honor of Mr. Winston’s favorite cut. The timepiece is complete with a stunning emerald-cut diamond that graces the dial and reaffirms the unequivocal provenance of this American beauty.
To ensure superlative precision and lifelong service, the Swiss-made mechanical automatic movement is equipped with the latest technology in the form of a silicon balance spring. In order to maintain the lean profile of the Avenue case, Harry Winston’s watchmakers came up with an ingenious solution. Instead of making the case thicker to accommodate the mechanical movement, the rotor is allowed to protrude slightly on the caseback, protected by a sapphire crystal glass. Designed to be admired, the 18-karat rose gold rotor is decorated with a guilloché motif and the elegant finishes on the movement – circular Côtes de Genève and circular graining – speak to the attention to detail synonymous with the House of Harry Winston.
Available in 18-karat white gold and 18-karat rose gold cases, the Avenue Classic Automatic is presented on a seamless alligator leather strap with a shiny pearl finish. The 18-karat gold ardillon buckle is set with six brilliant-cut diamonds and features an 18-karat gold folding clasp that adapts perfectly to the wrist for added comfort and security.
