This year’s Gurnigel Bergrennen hill climb, Switzerland’s oldest motorsport race, is taking place on 10 and 11 September. Graham has been named Official Timekeeper and Presenting Sponsor of the prestigious 3,743-metre race. The official watch of the two-day programme is the Chronofighter Superlight Carbon Skeleton.
Graham is well qualified for its role, thanks to various partnerships ranging from the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) to the GT Asia. The company’s founder Eric Loth also has a passion for cars that extends from engineering expertise to driving in races such as the Swiss Porsche Cup and the Gurnigel Bergrennen.
The new Chronofighter Superlight Carbon Skeleton timepieces epitomise this performance-driven partnership. They integrate the material considered to be at the pinnacle of modern automotive engineering beyond the case to the skeletonised dial, bezel and trigger.
The first Gurnigel Bergrennen hill climb took place in 1910. Since 1968 it has become an annual event. In 2012 the current course record was set at 1 minute 41.39 seconds, representing an average speed of 132 kmph. The 3,734-metre course starts in the Bernese village of Dürrbach and rises 314 metres to finish in Gurnigelbad. The average gradient is 8.4%.
