Seiko expands its Presage Collection by introducing new enamel dial versions.
In 2016 Seiko globally released the Presage watch collection, which also included a limited edition automatic chronograph with an enamel dial. It was an instant hit.
Now the Japanese watchmaker announces four new Presage models using the same enamel dials and a range of Seiko’s fine mechanical calibers. No longer limited in number, this enamel collection will be a permanent feature of the Presage line and will be available worldwide from September 2017.
Presage watches feature Seiko’s tried and trusted mechanical calibres. Made in the brand’s own facilities in Japan, they offer unrivalled levels of quality and value. Presage has been an outstanding success so far. The new enamel collection is dedicated to those who appreciate fine watchmaking and Japanese craftsmanship.
There are four models, using three different calibers. All draw their design inspiration from two landmark Seiko creations. First, the 1913 Laurel which was Seiko’s and Japan’s first ever wrist watch and which had an enamel dial.
Second, the Roman numeral hour markers are the direct descendants of the markers on the dial of Seiko’s 1895 pocket watch, the “Time Keeper.”
The enamel dials are made by the master craftsman Mitsuru Yokozawa and his team. Each Presage watch features dual-curved sapphire crystal glass so that even the ridge of the dial can be seen without distortion from any angle.
The hour-markers are painted no fewer than ten times to lift them in relief from the dial. The tips of the hands are curved by skilled craftsmen to follow the contours of the curved sapphire crystals so that the case depth is minimized. The exhibition case backs are sapphire crystals for greater durability.
