Oris Artix GT Chronograph New, Redesigned Version

Swiss watch brand Oris has released a new redesigned version of its Artix GT Chronograph.

In this new Artix GT Chronograph model, Oris has placed a novel countdown indicator. This indicator appears on the subdial at 9 o’clock and works in the same way as the lights on the start-line gantry at a Formula 1 Grand Prix. It is made up of fives squares and every 15 seconds these begin to fill with red.

After one second, the bottom square has filled with red, then the next square up after two seconds, and so on, until all five are red. Then they all return to white simultaneously. This process happens five seconds before the quarter, half, three-quarter and full minute.

The principle of this innovative complication is simple. Under the dial is a disc printed with a series of red columns, staggered like a staircase.

As the disc rotates these columns move into the aperture, filling it with red. The same subdial at 9 o’clock also serves as a running seconds, indicated by a single red square that moves continuously through a channel around the subdial’s outside edge once every 60 seconds.

In addition to this Oris-developed complication, the new Artix GT Chronograph also features 12-hour chronograph (with subdials inspired by the speed and rev counters on a sports car dashboard), tachymeter and date functions, powered by an automatic Swiss Made movement.

Measuring 44mm diameter, stainless steel case of the watch has been redesigned to look sportier and more refined than its predecessor, and has a transparent case back, revealing Oris’s signature Red Rotor.

The bi-directional rotating bezel has a matt black ceramic insert with a shiny minute scale. Around the bezel is the Oris developed rubber grip for precise adjustment. The watch comes on either a perforated black rubber racing strap with a folding clasp, or a stainless steel bracelet.

The new, redesigned Artix GT Chronograph will be available from August and cost CHF 3,200.
