Swiss watch brand Alpina has used its experience as official supplier of military and pilot watches to develop a new version of its iconic Startimer Pilot Big Date Chronograph.
In the first 50 years of the past century Alpina was a renowned manufacturer and official supplier of military aviation watches to continental air forces. Early aviation pioneers had strict requirements: their instruments had to be extremely precise and provide ultimate shock resistance. In addition, Alpina pilot’s watches were mostly equipped with an anti-magnetic case, a high-contrast dial with oversized luminous numerals and luminous hands for instant readability.
Since its initial launch in 2012, the Startimer Pilot Big Date Chronograph has enjoyed increasing popularity. The 2016 edition, comes with a new attractive military camouflage design and all the qualities expected in a high-performance Pilot’s watch: precision, functionality and reliability.
The Alpina Startimer Camouflage Pilot Big Date Chronograph features original military colours. Mirroring the functionality of flight instruments, the displays are generously sized and clearly laid out. The hands of the dial have a beige luminescent coating that guarantees high legibility in case of poor visibility. The unmistakable red Alpina triangle signature is found in its traditional position at the base of the central chronograph hand.
The attractive stainless steel case with black PVD coating houses a beautiful military camouflage dial featuring a big date at 6 o’clock. The sub dial at 9 o’clock shows the recorded minutes while the seconds can be read off from the central hand. The permanent small seconds hand in the sub dial at 6 o’clock indicates that the watch is running normally.
With a sapphire glass crystal scratch resistant face, secured against drops in pressure, the watch has all the credentials of an air pilots watch. The 44mm stainless-steel case of the Startimer Camouflage Pilot Chronograph Big Date is water-resistant up to 10 ATM and houses the AL-372 high precision Swiss quartz chronograph movement.
The case back is decorated with an engraving of a jet fighter, to remind us of its military spirit. This chronograph timepiece comes fitted with a beige genuine leather strap.
