The new Radiomir 1940 with the P.4000 automatic movement represents an exceptional marriage between the iconic simplicity of the Italian design of the 1940s and the technical expertise of high quality contemporary watchmaking of the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. All reduced to only 42 mm.
The Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic (PAM00620) is the first automatic watch in the Radiomir 1940 collection presented in the 42-mm size.
Thanks to the Manufacture calibre P.4000, with its oscillating weight mounted off-centre and integrated in the movement, the thickness of the case is only 10.93 mm and, in spite of the substantially reduced size, the proportions of the case are consistent with those of vintage Panerai watches, the source of inspiration of every new model of the brand.
The result is a sports watch which is also very elegant, offering an exceptional combination of the Italian design of the 1940s with the technical expertise of high quality contemporary watchmaking: two aspects which enrich each other to offer enthusiasts a watch with a strong personality.
The case of the new Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic is made from AISI 316L stainless steel, a metal particularly resistant to corrosion, and it is consistently water-resistant to 10 bar (a depth of about 100 metres).
Each element has a polished finish, including the wide bezel, the lugs integral with the case block and the cylindrical winding crown with the OP logo. On the back is a sapphire glass porthole which reveals the ingenious simplicity and beauty of the P.4000 calibre, the automatic movement with a power reserve of three days entirely designed and executed by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel.
A wide bridge with brushed finish covers almost half the movement, making it particularly strong and reliable, but the tungsten micro-rotor is clearly visible; it winds the two spring barrels in both directions, ensuring a power reserve of three days.
Tungsten is an ideal material for the oscillating weight, being bright and of high density: qualities which make it aesthetically pleasing and ideal for applications which require a mass of high specific weight. Another bridge, smaller than the main one, firmly holds both sides of the balance, which oscillates with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz).
The dial of the new Radiomir 1940 is black and has all the classic characteristics of the Panerai dial: the sandwich structure, large bar hour markers and figures at the cardinal points, and the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock.
Exceptional visibility at night is ensured by the use of the special “Grade A” Super-LumiNova®, the luminous substance applied to the markers, which provide legibility for about 35% longer than the standard type.
The new Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic is supplied with a black alligator strap with contrasting ecru stitching.
