Unveiled at this year’s Watches & Wonders luxury watch fair in Hong Kong, the Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Spirit Date Automatic in 18-karat red gold is a new member in the Heritage Spirit collection, that was launched in 2014 in homage to the spirit of the legendary Meisterstück fountain pen of 1924. With a diameter of 39 millimetres for a depth of just 9 millimetres, and Haute Horlogerie quality pervading every detail, this watch bears the signature of traditional craftsmanship, allying timeless design with perfect functionality. Its refinement is seen in soft lines that will appeal to watch enthusiasts, for whom the classic elegant and timeless design will always look in line with the times.
In the conception of the dial, central to this creation, the focus has been on ensuring easy readability. The attention paid to the dial’s fabrication is a clear manifestation of Montblanc’s desire to share its passion for Haute Horlogerie. Its slightly domed form and, fine guilloche work, affirm the classic role of this model in the collection. The surface is further embellished by master craftsmen who meticulously place the Roman numeral XII, fine faceted hour-markers of different sizes, and a plain aperture at 3 o’clock.
To conserve the magic of this dial, hands of a sleek and timeless design were required. For the hours and minutes, Montblanc opted for Dauphine hands, recognisable by their slender form and the fine facets that manage to capture the light without dazzling. Gilded to match the tone of the hour-markers, they are offset by a long and fine sweep-seconds hand whose rhythmic movement brings this discreetly sophisticated display to life.
At the heart of this timepiece is the self-winding mechanical calibre MB 24.09. Looking at this movement, with its regulating organ oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour for optimum precision, through the watch’s transparent case back made from sapphire crystal, we can see the engraved rotor, which oscillates in response to the wearer’s movements, and the immaculate finishing of the components.
This movement, which has a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound, is protected by a case in 18-karat red gold, conceived to be water-resistant to 3 bars. Displaying all the characteristics that go with Haute Horlogerie, the case sports a polished narrow convex bezel, a horizontally satin-finished middle and subtly curved horns, with a slightly convex sapphire crystal, with anti-reflective treatment to improve the reading quality. The complete watch, harmonious in its overall aspect, is worn on a black alligator-skin strap closed by a traditional ardillon buckle crafted in 18-karat red gold.
