Breitling has created a 75 piece Limited Edition Series, featuring its iconic Navitimer pilot’s wristwatch, in tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. A donation of the sales of the Limited Edition collectors timepieces will benefit the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity providing financial, practical and emotional support to all members of the RAF.
Breitling has a long and rich aviation heritage and an enduring association with the Royal Air Force since the 1930s when Breitling’s on-board flight Chronographs were installed in RAF World War II aircraft. The Battle of Britain, a battle for national survival, fought in the skies over the United Kingdom in the summer of 1940 and, the first to be fought primarily in the air, ultimately decided the fate of the United Kingdom, freedom of Europe and, the outcome of the Second World War. The heroism of ‘the Few’ who fought to save Britain from invasion came at a tremendous price, with only half of the pilots surviving the Battle of Britain and the following five years of war.
In memoriam, Breitling’s famous Navitimer adopts an exclusive interpretation, bearing the official Royal Air Force Battle of Britain 75th anniversary crests in a rare execution across both sub-dials at 3 & 9 o’clock, serving to both reflect on the delivery of air power in 1940’s and to celebrate the RAF’s continued efforts to secure the skies today. On the reverse, the engraved case-back exhibits the anniversary crest alongside the unique edition number of each timepiece.
Launched in 1952, Breitling’s Navitimer chronograph is its most emblematic model and one of the great 20th century watchmaking classics: with a circular slide rule the design incorporates form and function, serving to handle all calculations relating to airborne navigation whilst retaining an elegant design; it is the World’s oldest mechanical chronograph still in production. The timepiece features the manufacture Breitling Caliber 01, a high-performance self-winding chronograph entirely developed and produced within the Breitling Chronométrie workshops and chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) – the highest benchmark in terms of precision and reliability, and the only one based on an international standard.
Breitling will support the RAF Benevolent Fund through sales of the Navitimer Battle of Britain Limited Edition Series. In the 75 years since the Battle of Britain, The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund has assisted those who served, their families, and the families of those who died in battle. Today, they continue to assist Battle of Britain and World War II veterans and their dependents, providing financial assistance to ensure a comfortable, dignified retirement. Funds raised through sales of the Limited Edition Navitimer will contribute to the development of two seaside respite apartments for serving members of the RAF and their families. Located adjacent to the existing Princess Marina care and respite home in the south coast, the apartments give servicemen the opportunity to rest and recuperate in a peaceful environment with their families following tours of duty.
The Navitimer Battle of Britain Limited Edition Series will be sold exclusively through the Breitling Boutique, 130 Bond Street, London and selected Breitling locations nationwide with 10% of sales of proceeds from each watch donated to the RAFBF. Priced from £6480, featured on a strap and £7490 on a bracelet.
The Limited Edition timepiece number 1/75 will be auctioned to benefit the RAFBF at the RAF’s official Commemorative Gala Dinner on 17th September, 2015.
