Rolex is introducing three exceptional new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust Pearlmaster in a new 39 mm size. These 18 ct yellow or white gold models masterfully combine Rolex’s watchmaking art with the captivating natural charms of gold and coloured gemstones.
Equipped with the new calibre 3235, these jewellery timepieces are distinguished by a resplendent bezel set with a colour gradient of 48 baguette-cut sapphires – blue to fuchsia pink on the 18 ct white gold version; blue to green, or orange to yellow on the 18 ct yellow gold versions. These three models with “fancy pink”, “fancy green” and “fancy orange” sapphire bezels are offered with coloured dials featuring a diamond-set 6 and 9, or in versions with fully paved dials and diamond-set bracelets.
Sapphires and diamonds are selected according to rigorous criteria and then set in keeping with the finest traditions to ensure the most intense radiance. Rolex has its own gemmology laboratory, where experienced specialists check the quality of precious stones using state-of-the-art equipment. The gems are then entrusted to the in-house master gem-setters, experts in the art of exalting the stones’ natural lustre. Rolex also has its own foundry, which creates 18 ct yellow, white and Everose gold alloys from the purest raw materials. From casting the gold to shaping and polishing it, the entire process is conducted with extreme care in the brand’s workshops in order to respect Rolex standards of quality. Thanks to such comprehensive in-house expertise and stringent benchmarks at all stages of production, Rolex gem-set watches shine with incomparable magnificence.
The Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), is a paragon of robustness, proportion and elegance. The characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of 18 ct gold. The fluted case back is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The winding crown, fitted with the Twinlock double water-proofness system, screws down securely against the case. The crystal, with a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for easy reading of the date, is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire. The waterproof Oyster case provides optimal protection for the high precision movement of the Datejust Pearlmaster 39.
The new Datejust Pearlmaster is equipped with a new-generation movement, calibre 3235, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex for a superlative level of performance. Certified as a Swiss chronometer by COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), it is tested a second time by Rolex after being cased to ensure that in everyday use it satisfies Rolex’s criteria for precision, which are twice as exacting as those for an officially certified chronometer. This control of the final precision of the assembled watch is carried out using a methodology and high-technology equipment specially developed by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of Rolex technology with 14 patents, it offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetism, ease of use and reliability. It incorporates the new Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interferences.
The oscillator, the true heart of the watch, has an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring. Patented and manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy, it is also up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. Thanks to new barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3235 extends to approximately 70 hours.
With delightfully rounded solid links in 18 ct gold, the Pearlmaster bracelet contributes to the watch’s distinctive character and offers the wearer maximum comfort. It is equipped with a concealed Crownclasp that is both elegant and functional. On some versions, the intermediate bracelet links are sublimely set with diamonds. Echoing the bezel and dial, this superb gem-setting provides the finishing touch to an authentic watchmaking masterpiece.
