Two elegantly understated models have joined the watchmaker Mido’s flagship collection: the robust, all-steel Multifort Arabic Steel and the sporty Multifort Arabic Black, featuring a black PVD-treated steel case and black leather strap with red topstitching. These two contrasting timepieces will delight enthusiasts of timeless watchmaking design. The black dials of both models are animated by four Arabic numerals and are elegantly decorated with vertical Geneva stripes that, together with the tips of the indexes, recall the suspension and rivets of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Launched in 1934, two years after the Sydney Harbour Bridge was completed, the Multifort collection shares the structure’s remarkable qualities – a perfect blend of functionality and beauty. A truth that has stood the test of time, as Mido celebrated the 80th anniversary of Multifort production in 2014, making this emblematic collection one of the longest-produced series in the history of Swiss watchmaking.
These two new models both assert a distinctively masculine character in different ways. The elegant Multifort Arabic Steel, with its steel case and bracelet, offers proven robustness. The Multifort Arabic Black, meanwhile, appeals with its resolutely sporty look: its black PVD-treated steel case is combined with a black leather strap adorned with red topstitching. The colour red is also present in various touches on the dial, particularly the seconds hand. These two models perfectly embody Mido’s watchmaking philosophy: classic design with understated, refined lines conceived to withstand the effects of time.
Both the Multifort Arabic Steel and the Multifort Arabic Black feature a steel case measuring 42 mm in diameter. Several details pay tribute to the Sydney Harbour Bridge: the vertical Geneva stripes and the tips of the indexes adorning the dials recall the suspension and rivets of this majestic structure, a striking symbol of architectural modernism. The Arabic numerals “3-6-9-12” add an elegant touch of rhythm to the design of the dials, which are protected by a sapphire crystal. Both models indicate the day and date in an aperture at 3 o’clock. The hours and minutes hands, as well as the numerals, are treated with white Super-LumiNova® to ensure optimal readability at night.
Both water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft), the Multifort Arabic Steel comes with a stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp, while the Multifort Arabic Black comes with a black crocodile-effect calfskin strap with red stitching, also fitted with a folding clasp. The transparent case back enables fine watchmaking enthusiasts to admire the elaborate automatic movement and the oscillating weight, adorned with Geneva stripes and the engraved Mido logo.
