Van Cleef & Arpels Abstraction Watch

The Abstraction watch by Van Cleef & Arpels echoes the ring of the same name, created for the High Jewelry collection Bals de Légende™. Their shared aesthetic pays homage to the Black & White Ball held by Truman Capote in New York in 1966. The combination of geometric lines with contrasting black and white expresses the primacy of pure forms.

The geometric composition of the Abstraction watch – a unique piece by Van Cleef & Arpels – reveals itself in a myriad of spinels and diamonds set on white gold, creating a subtle interplay of lines and forms. This sophisticated and graphic style is accentuated by a bold trilogy of diamonds of different cuts, reflecting the Maison’s taste for asymmetry.

Abstraction watch and separable bracelets: White gold, one portrait diamond, one emerald-cut DIF type 2A diamond of 11,20 carats and one cushion-cut DIF type 2A diamond of 12,03 carats, white mother-of-pearl, black spinels and diamonds (JLC 101 manual-winding mechanical movement), unique piece.

Following in the footsteps of the Maison’s transformable pieces, the Abstraction watch is composed of three magnetic bracelets. They may be worn alone or combined at will to offer a variety of styles. The first bracelet gives pride of place to a DIF type 2A diamond weighing 12.03 carats, of extremely rare quality. Its cushion cut and clarity endow it with a timeless elegance.

A second bracelet, adorned with the white mother-of-pearl dial, gives the time. Lodged under a portrait-cut diamond, the dial is brought to life by the smallest mechanical watch movement. A third bracelet reveals a DIF type 2A diamond weighing 11.20 carats: its emerald cut and the clarity of its sparkle complement the design of the jewel to perfection. The black spinels – a historic batch dating from 1925 – offset the radiance of the diamonds and contribute additional character to this exceptional piece.
