After the successful launch of 2 timepieces – the Helmsman and Chroma – Singapore based micro watch brand Zelos announces its third project: Abyss, a professional grade dive watch made with marine grade bronze. Built to withstand extreme pressures up to 3000 meters, Abyss takes its design inspiration from its first model, Helmsman.

Bronze has been closely associated with ocean world since ancient times because of its corrosion resistance. Like the first model, the Zelos Abyss will be come with a fine bronze case, yet designed to with stand extreme pressure.

An oxide layer, called a patina, forms a protective skin over time to protect the metal. This patina individualizes each Abyss, creating completely unique pieces. The chamfered edges of the case will be finely polished to perfection and the rest of the case is brushed to provide a contrast.

The sapphire crystal mounted to protect the face of the Abyss measures 7mm thick. It is double domed in shape to reduce distortion when viewed at an angle. Inner anti reflective coatings also prevent any unwanted reflections and improves legibility. It is equipped with 120 click, unidirectional bezel and Helium Escape Valve to provide functionality for saturation divers. As with the Helmsman, an internal bezel is also added to provide additional timing functionality if required, without any risk of the bezel turning unintentionally.

Maintaining a water resistance of up to 3000m requires a complex balance of thick metal casings and fine gaskets sealing every possible point of leakage. Each of the crowns has 5 gaskets to ensure a waterproof seal, while a double O-ring system seals the hefty 4mm thick stainless steel screw-down caseback.

The Zelos Abyss will be powered with the automatic Miyota 9015 movement, a work horse designed to perform precisely and reliably. A total of 500 pieces of the Abyss will be produced and each piece will be individually numbered.

The Zelos Abyss will be available in Blue, Green, Brown, Black and DLC bezel with Black dial versions. The CUSN8 Bronze case measures 43mm in diameter and 18mm thickness. 51.5mm lug to lug length makes it extremely wearable.

The Zelos Abyss crowd funding project is currently online on Kickstarter. Pre-order prices start from US$ 490/390 Euros. Delivery is scheduled for May 2015.
